When Gillian Welch & David Rawlings had Emmylou Harris and Old Crow Medicine Show join them at this year's HSB to do The Weight, I have to say it was up there in the top 3 music highlights of my life! Amazing festival - well done everyone!! It was so worth coming all the way from Australia for!!

Could we get some heat? I arrived with only shorts and tshirts. I had heard brief mention of your festival before, and then I saw that The Flatlanders were scheduled there, I knew for sure where my vacation would be. I marked the list of all the groups I had heard of and was completely amazed. A strong showing from Texas for sure. As I do at most of these type events I mark up the schedule of people I want to see, and as usual the people I go home remembering were not marked, as I had never heard of them.I'm sure it was no accident that any of them were there. I'll be back next year for sure, and with warm clothes.

Thank you very much, Warren Hellman and all of those who make the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass possible, including the artists. I enjoyed Amadou & Mariam, Old 97's, Galactic w/ horns (Shamarr Allen!) and on Green Onions, Booker T! also: Allen Toussaint, Allison Moorer, Rodney Crowell, Dave Alvin & the Guilty Men, Hayes Carll (also sat in on Fri w/ Prine), Gillian Welch, The Barefoot Nellies, The Flatlanders & on Fri: John Prine (an american treasure).  See you again in 2010!

We are an annual three day music festival specializing in roots music of all kind. We have six stages around the Speedway Meadow area of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and the festival is absolutely free to the public. You have read this correctly -- FREE!!!!

What began as Warren Hellman’s bluegrass fantasy in 2001 as a wonderful gift to the city has now grown into one of the world’s largest and most anticipated festivals for concert goers and musicians alike. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 10, the FREE festival in Speedway, Marx and Lindley Meadows in Golden Gate Park, will take place in 2010 on Friday, October 1 – Sunday, October 3.

Starting in 2001 with 2 stages and 9 bands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass quickly grew by leaps and bounds over the next few years. Soon 3 stages turned into 5 (and now 6!) and everyone from Willie Nelson to Dr. Ralph Stanley to Dolly Parton has graced them. As the talent continues to impress, so do the crowds. 2009's attendance estimates were a staggering 800,000 over the three days.
