About me: "Manager of bands, photographer, auteur and archly Anglophilic." - The Pitch Weekly
What began as a passion for writing and photography quickly transformed into a new career for Harley Sears. For several years, the 31-year-old music manager has overseen a variety of pop, punk, and rock bands spanning across America and Britain. He currently manages the piano/drums duo KRISTEENYOUNG, described as “the best new voice in rock." A recent addition to New York's premiere glam-rock party, Harley is a resident DJ at Glamdammit - spinning an eclectic mix of glam, punk, and sleazy rock ‘n’ roll. He has produced a series of short biographical films which spotlight the life and careers of legendary figures Glen Matlock (The Sex Pistols), Irish rock publicist BP Fallon (T Rex, Led Zeppelin), and guitarist Earl Slick (John Lennon, David Bowie). Harley is currently filming a full-length documentary on the band Slinky Vagabond, fronted by award-winning British fashion designer Keanan Duffty. An avid animal rights advocate, Sears is a member of the Direct Action Crew for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a pack of swashbuckling activists who patrol the high seas, dishing out pirate justice to whalers, fishing vessels, and seal hunters who target endangered species.
Rock & Roll Picture Show: Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Blondie, Tony Visconti, Keanan Duffty, BP Fallon, Semi Precious Weapons, Kristeen Young, and more.
"She wails operatically, like Kate Bush fronting Metallica, thumping seven shades of shit from her piano as thunderous drums pound away in the background. Think ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us’ crossbred with ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, as rendered by Tori Amos, but, you know, good." (Time Out London)
KRISTEENYOUNG supported Morrissey on his Ringleader of the Tormentors tour in 2006 and 2007. Young has also lent vocals to Morrissey's B-Side "Sweetie-Pie," and sang on the single "That's How People Grow Up", which debuted on the David Letterman show. In 2002, she contributed keyboard and vocals for David Bowie's Heathen album. Both Bowie and Placebo's Brian Molko have duetted with her on her own albums.
Says Morrissey, "Do you remember an ancient notion of how good the very best should be? This is Kristeen Young. She uses her keyboard as a highly trained Nazi might use an electronic rod for shocking the parts - the hands moving so fast that whether they actually move at all is an ongoing debate. The voice is a beautiful bayonet, and the life swills out in song - 'Strangle Bowie with his neckerchief,' she sings in Kill The Father - but with a heart big enough to trot horses on." (The Guardian, UK)
KRISTEENYOUNG have just completed recording their sixth full-length album, "Music for Strippers, Hookers, and the Odd On-Looker" with legendary record producer Tony Visconti (Bowie, Morrissey, T Rex). The album is scheduled for release by late Summer 2008.
Slinky Vagabond: Fronted by Keanan Duffty (award-winning british fashion designer), the band is made up of legendary rock musicians Glen Matlock ("The Sex Pistols"), Clem Burke ("Blondie") and Earl Slick (David Bowie's guitarist).
Glen Matlock, bass player and founding member of The Sex Pistols talks to Harley Sears about growing up in London, the birth of The Sex Pistols, working with Malcolm McLaren, and the future of the music industry.
Keanan Duffty describes his new limited edition David Bowie collection of men’s items, including tuxedo jackets, jeans, dress shirts and rocker tees available at Target stores nationwide.
"Working with Harley Sears on the 'Bowie by Keanan Duffty' video was a pleasure. Harley truly understands the Bowie aesthetic and he's been able to create a concise clip that gets the story across very well. As the viewer will be able to tell, I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to design a collection of clothes that are directly inspired by a Rock Star who has had such a lasting visual impact on the culture of the last four decades." - Keanan Duffty
Harley Sears joins Earl Slick (former guitarist to John Lennon and David Bowie) and Saphin in the studio for an inside look at their new project, "The Eons." Visit them on MySpace at www.myspace.com/theeons.
One of the architects of glam rock, BP Fallon was publicist and headkeeper to Marc Bolan & T. Rex. He has been associated with Led Zeppelin, Johnny Thunders, U2 and countless others during his extraordinary career. To learn more, vibe into www.bpfallon.com.
A Conversation with BP Fallon: Irish raconteur and rock 'n' roll guru BP Fallon sits with Harley Sears for an intimate chinwag about the past, present, and future of music - including stories of T. Rex, Johnny Thunders, and Sid Vicious. (Above: Part 2: T. Rex & Marc Bolan)
