Welcome. I'm Randy Weinstin. Harps Complete is an open-ended venue for my various harmonica playing projects.
I play both chromatic and diatonic harmonicas and enjoy experimenting with ensemble pieces for both instruments. I also play with just about anybody who will put up with me and even some who won't.
I play regularly with the tough yet tasteful guitarist Michael Gomez in a combo that plays a broad cross section of stuff -- bebop to finger picking blues. We have some upcoming gigs at Banjo Jim's in NYC.
My newest project is the New York Harmonica Ensemble. Our pilot gig will be on Oct 8th at Banjo Jim's in NYC. This is a four piece harmonica ensemble that will be performing originals in a variety of styles as well as Appalachian fiddle tunes and standards such as "Body and Soul".
The tunes "Afro Reel","Dorian Duet", and "Harmonica Rag" are from the example CD accompanying The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing the harmonica, which I co-authored with William Melton. The book/cd present a comprehensive survey of diatonic harmonica possibilities. I hope to develop supplementary instructional materials for the book and present them at my main website harps complete
Here is some footage from Hazmat Modine's fall European tour. The town is Wuppertal Germany and the tune is "Grade A Grade Day".
You can hear the studio version at the hazmat modine myspace profile.
Thanks so much for the compliment on my "Wicked 3rd Position" harp solo! I appreciate it! I'd like to compliment you on your playing too. "Porgianna" I especially enjoyed! Are you switching harps on that tune? 1st posistion, then second, diatonic then chromatic? It's a great tune and wonderful playing! So are you a permanant member of Hazmat Modine? If so, I wasn't aware. But I was aware of Hazmat Modine and the fact that they have two harmonicists!!! I think they're great! Anyway, thanks again for stopping by, and thanks for the add too! Hope you have a great year...
Randy, So impressed with the new stuff. Lovely ensemble work. I hope you make it to Detroit sometime, it would be a blast to play together. All the best, Kevin
