Take a voice that embodies the gravelly rasp of Chrissie Hynde mixed with the sweetness of Debbie Harry, and you’ve found the voice of Selena Harrington. Not one to use two words where one will do, Selena sings melodic songs, bordering on the melancholy with sharp, observational lyrics.
Originally from Vancouver, Selena started playing London’s acoustic circuit before recording her first album, 'Montana Hi-Rise'. With production by Death in Vegas guitarist Ian Button (solo stuff The Anthony Anderson Project), Selena's first release provides a soundtrack of trembling guitars, spacious beats and cinematic soundscapes.
Selena gained notoriety for her powerful, seductive voice, which led her to support such artists as Damien Rice, Cat Power, James Yorkston and Skin (Skunk Anansie) at Shepherds Bush Empire; she has also played major festivals like V Fest, Manchester’s In The City and NXNE in Toronto.
Her second album, 'Tiny Places', saw her working again with Ian Button along with producer Sean Read (piano, keyboards - Beth Orton, Graham Coxon) and 20goto10, to create a collection of songs that touch on finding yourself and hiding from the world.
If you wear your heart on your sleeve, or wish you did, keep listening.
Holy fuck Selena, Fuck Fuck Fuck. You seriously rock. Cut Yourself is one hell of a tune!!! Big Time. Any time you fancy a cuppa, the kettle is always on in the Finds camp! We have milk and sugar and all that good stuff. Do it... Keep Doing it! Find the Time.
Please come to Reykjavik Night's debut evening of musical fun on Sunday 17th June!
It's being held at The Luminaire in Kilburn and we have Icelandic electro skank merchants Trabant headlining with support from the punktastic Aela and our very own home-grown Tim Ten Yen - all for a fiver in advance.
He's doing well thanks, although I still worry about how mch he eats and how little exercise he gets. He now has rather large stomach....I might try him on the Fat Smash diet! Are you up for Viva Cake on Saturday? Can't wait!
Welcome to 2007 buddy! Hope you had a good one. I listened to your album a few times now and it's good man. Has elements of Beth Orton and KT Tunstall, obviously with a unique Selena twist though!!!!
