There was no candy cane left, so I petted the dog on the train and it came apart, hook line and sinker. Like a backyard palm tree made of sundry wire hangers, the sepia-toned conductor then announced to the air, "Wednesday, four-thirteen, twenty-0'eight." I was not convinced so I checked the date: April 14th is a SUNDAY, not a Wednesday.
