Flashback is one of America’s most entertaining novelty groups, playing classic rock, vintage soul, and standards from all eras on violins and cello. Their classical and jazz backgrounds give them all the virtuosity they need to sizzle through hair-raising performances of hits by Coldplay, Maroon Five, and Led Zeppelin, to chestnuts like “It Had To Be You”, “Mr. Sandman”, and the hits of Frank Sinatra and Burt Bacharach.
Lead by jazz violinist, Harry Scorzo, Flashback has been playing at concerts, weddings and special events for over 20 years as “The Southbay Strings”. Late in the 80’s, Harry began to notice how much people enjoyed when he switched from the regular classical repertoire to songs that they liked and were familiar with. A favorite tradition Harry started back then was adding as many “wise crack” requests to the book as he could. When a guest would jokingly ask for “In A Gadda Da Vida”, or “Stairway to Heaven”, the customer would always be quite shocked to hear the string trio crank it up. And because of Harry and the trio’s jazz and rock background, the performance would be just as exciting as if a smoking rock band was playing it. That’s why Harry has been leading trios and quartets for the highest profile entertainment agencies in Southern California for almost three decades.
