Who I'd like to meet:
Beth Hart is a survivor, a powerhouse, a woman with a rock and roll soul. Beth is a unique singer/songwriter. Genuine, honest, raw and real are words often used to describe her.
Beth is an internationally known artist. She has an astonishing voice and ability to connect and communicate to an audience. So versatile, she can sing a beautiful piano ballad with masterful elegance and then turn around and perform a Zeppelin cover that brings the house down. Beth lays herself bare in openly writing about her life struggles including drug and alcohol addiction. Thankfully she is now clean, touring with her band and writing amazing songs. She is an inspiration to so many.
Beth writes about deeply personal subjects such as self-esteem, self-abuse, security, abandonment, domestic violence and other personal demons. In a live performance all of these topics may be touched upon while she douses herself with her water bottle, struts across the stage and swears like a longshoreman. Mixed in there may be a playful song about her husband's stinky feet or the importance of men having skills in the bedroom. Beth has the ability to create inspiring and life affirming songs no matter what the subject matter. Beth can break your heart and mend it again - all in one evening.
Beth spends a lot of her time touring in the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Germany and other parts of Europe. She can also be found performing in clubs in her hometown of Los Angeles. Beth's highly talented band is comprised of Jon Nichols on guitar, Tom Lilly on bass, and Todd Wolf on drums. This is a collaborative and supportive band that is a true family as well as a professional unit.
Beth has collaborated with Les Paul, Jeff Beck, Neal Schon and Dutch artist Born among others. Beck saw one of her shows in the Netherlands and hand picked her to tour with him as his guest vocalist on two U.S. tours in 2006. Beck said of Beth, "The vocalist in the band, Beth Hart, I can't believe that she isn't huge. She's just got this niche market. But there's nobody who can hold a candle to her. Even Janis Joplin. I'd much rather listen to Beth, because her intonation's on-the-ball; she doesn't strain the throat like Janis does. I heard her voice on one of her CDs, and then I saw a performance in Holland that she gave, which was amazing," he said. "She was covering some of our early stuff, and I mean, people's heads spun around." -Beckology by Rod Harmon.
Highly recommended to new fans who have not seen her live is Beth's Live at Paradiso DVD. This is an exceptional, magical and spellbinding performance captured on film for those who love rock and blues and who are not faint of heart. Her uninhibited and provocative performances capture the imagination of every music lover that comes in contact with her. Check it out on Amazon.com and scan the reviews.
Beth's most recent album "37 Days" was recorded at CenterStaging in Burbank, CA. The album was recorded and mixed in only 37 days. Working with Danish producer Rune Westberg, Beth wanted to capture the raw live sound instead of sticking to the traditional studio process. It is an amazing album! See my blog for more info on 37 Days.
Beth and her husband Scott Guetzkow currently live in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles.
Whatever you do, if you have a chance to experience Beth live - do it!
"I feel music is something that was given to me to make me happy, something to enjoy. All of us are so gifted in so many ways. Maybe getting out there now and showing people what I really enjoy doing can inspire people to find the many gifts they have inside." - Beth Hart

Jon Nichols
Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Background Vocals
Jon Nichols was born and raised in Southern California, where he began playing guitar at the age of 12. Influenced by rock music from the 60’s and 70’s, he started out playing in cover bands. He formed the band Shovelhead, which toured and recorded a blues-rock CD.
Jon began playing with Beth in 2000. He and Scott Guetzkow, have known each other for many years and have always been very close friends. When Beth does acoustic gigs, Jon always accompanies her. Jon has co-written music together with Beth, like” Lay Your Hands On Me” (from the previous album “Leave The Light On”), and much more. On the new album, "37 Days", there is also a lot of material co-written by Jon Nichols.
When not busy with Beth, he has a steady solo acoustic guitar gig and also fronts a band that he’s put together with his friends.
He plays Gibson (Les Paul, 335, TV Special, Hank Williams Special), Fender (Telecaster, Stratocaster) and Yamaha (acoustic) guitars, and he uses Divided By 13, Marshall, Fender and Vox amps and Ernie Ball strings. Jon is influenced and inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Mick Ronson and Humble Pie.
He still lives in Southern California and has two daughters who are very much into music (vocals, guitar) and sports (soccer and skateboarding). In his free time, Jon enjoys having BBQ’s with his friends and family, and driving his classic white 1967 Lincoln Continental.
Tom Lilly
Bass
Born on August 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Tom eventually settled in Dallas Texas, where the rest of his family still resides.
Tom first got into music at the age of 12, playing tenor saxophone, guitar, and eventually moving to electric bass.
It was in high school, while attending The Dallas High School For The Performing Arts, that Tom found bass to be his favorite and most natural instrument.
After graduating, Tom spent a few years honing his skills around Texas with various cover bands, blues bands and original bands, while also playing on quite a few recording sessions in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area. In 1987, after studying at North Texas State University, Tom packed up and moved to the Los Angeles area.
Since moving to L.A., he has enjoyed both touring and recording with some very well-known names in music, as well as with many lessor-known but equally as talented artists. Tom first met Beth at a casual rehearsal in Los Angeles in 2000, and has been with her ever since.
When not busy with Beth, Tom likes to spend his time in his home studio writing, arranging and producing his own music, and also collaborating with other musicians, artists and producers.
Tom is married and currently lives in Burbank, CA.
He prefers to use Fender basses, Ampeg bass amps, and Dean Markley bass strings.
Todd Wolf
Drums, Percussion
Todd Wolf, born and raised in Chicago, got his first drum set when he was 3 years old and has not stopped playing since.
Todd studied music at Depaul University in Chicago and started working professionally as a drummer at age 17. He has done recording sessions, record dates, 100s of jingles, and movie sound tracks.
Todd went on tour with "Sugar Blue", Harmonica player for the Rolling stones. It was Todd’s first real touring gig, which brought him to Japan, Brazil and all over Europe.
Todd moved to Los Angeles in 2000, seeking new opportunities and challenges and earned a reputation as a jazz drummer. He ended up getting to play with a lot of people that he listened to while growing up.
After a while, Todd started to get a reputation as a rock drummer as well, and played in several rock bands.
Todd met Jon Nichols and Tom Lilly when they were playing cover tunes at a race track in Pasadena, California. They played in between the horse races and had a great time.
About a year later Jon Nichols called him up, asking to play a gig with Beth in L.A. The gig eventually led to being asked to join the band as their steady drummer.
Todd Plays: Yamaha Drums, Vic Firth Sticks and Evans Drum heads.
