１９７５年１２月２５日、北海道札幌市生まれ。３歳のときに、ピアノのレッスンを受け始めたことをきっかけに、音楽生活がスタートする。 中学、高校時代は、ロックバンドを結成しギター、ボーカルを担当。札幌市内のライブハウスで活動する傍ら、クラシックギターを藤垣秀雄氏に師事。
東京理科大学理工学部に入学後、アドリブ演奏の魅力にひかれジャズ研究会に入部。一年後にギターからベースに転向。在学中からプロのジャズベースプレイヤーとして活動。 卒業後、２０００年にボストンのバークリー音楽院に奨学金を受け入学。同校でベースをRon Mahdi, Whitt Brown に師事。
渡米一年後には、ボストンの若手ジャズミュージシャンの登竜門であるWally's Jazz Cafeのレギュラーベーシストに抜擢されるなど、アメリカでも幅広く活動を始める。
２００１年にニューヨークに拠点を移してからは Wayne Escoffery(ts), Greg Tardy(ts), Dan Nimmer(p)などと活動を共にし、多くのミュージシャンとセッションを重ねる。 また、２００３年には自己のグループで BLUE NOTE New York に出演する。
２００５年６月に帰国後、辛島文雄(p)、山口真文(ts)、池田篤(as)などのグループで活動。現在は小林陽一＆Japanese Jazz Messengers や Routine Jazz Sextet のベーシストを務める。
また、自然や宇宙をテーマにした作曲にも力を入れている。
