Well, I was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, on February 26 1975. The same day as Johnny Cash, Jaz Coleman, Jackie Gleason, Levi Strauss, Victor Hugo and Buffalo Bill...among many others.
I was raised, more of less, in the backwoods of northwestern Wisconsin. It was a place where your neighbor lived five miles away. Being pretty much secluded, I spent most of my time, as a youth, listening to my mother’s vinyl collection. Coming from the hippie generation, herself, I was brought up on such artists as The Beatles, Donovan Leitch and Frank Zappa.
Later, during my middle and high school years in Drummond, I had the privilege of having one of the greatest bus drivers of all time, Dick Smith. He would allow us to play any of our tapes, which we brought with us. Hence I was introduced to bands such as Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo, New Order, The Cars, R.E.M. and the like.
Nearing my final high school year and early 20-something stage, I was heavily intoxicated by the gothic and industrial subculture. Indulging, big time, into bands as The Cure, Bauhaus, NIN, Love & Rockets, Gary Numan, so on and so forth. During my time living in Hayward, Wisconsin, I met Brian Olson. It didn’t take long before we became good friends and co-founded the band TR0LL. From 1994-2002, we managed to make over 20 albums. We never sold one and we never played live. The idea was to get as “underground” as one could go, with the cheesiest instruments and recording devices imaginable. Our first three albums were recorded with cheap Casio keyboards, a fender guitar, a Radio Shack microphone and a karaoke machine!
TR0LL was based off our old high school art teacher...who resembled a troll. Hayward was not the best of places for artistic expression. At least, for the kind we sought out. Which is one of the reasons it compelled us to create such music. We just wanted to show that anybody could make music. I think we pulled that off efficiently.
As time moved on and Brian and I found ourselves in Madison, the quality of our albums progressed. From low budget karaoke machines, to audio 4-tracks, to digital zip-disk recorders, straight to CD. About 2002, when our last album was finalized at the end of that year, TR0LL pretty much fell apart. Brian had lost interest in recording anything anymore. This was mainly due to his job at a local music store which wiped out his whole interest in music, altogether. I first started to notice these emotions he bore a couple years in advance, hence the reason for my first solo album, The Prickett Conspiracy, to be pushed out during the 2001 year. I did two solo albums before that, but they can be found on the TR0LL collaboration of Stellarpussy (Brian's and my solo albums, throughout the years, put together).
Within the years to follow, I pulled off tossing out a few solo albums, with the same TR0LL philosophy (never selling one, never playing live, cheap means, anyone can do it), then came a long brake. Now upon the 2008 year, I have begun, after a four year rest, with a new slew of albums lined up. The recordings are better; Pro-Tools, Reason, upgraded synths, etc. The albums will be pressed and they will be sold. What you are reading is the first official HASENFANG site. Soon, you will be able to purchase news albums and hopefully enjoy the same crappy tunes I have always put out. Perhaps, if time allows me to do so, a digital re-master of all my previous albums, including some TR0LL.
