Heroes
Hatchet Jack was born after Eddie Mahalick and Justin Sago teamed up for a student film "Dilemma" directed by Sago. Mahalick a recent grad of Columbia College-Hollywood and Sago a current student of Pittsburgh Filmmakers were cruizin through thier old nieghborhood of Greentown in Rivesville West Virginia when the idea to do a movie evolved. Some abandoned coal mining buildings would provide the setting for a 5 minute silent film. Yes a 5 minute silent film.The two parted ways for a couple of weeks and during that time Sago heard the story of Hatchet Jack and began writing. He forwarded the pages to Mahalick and he tweeked it to what became the original script. It was only 25 pages long. (a short film) They then put out a call for crew and met with Lee Whittle of Johnstown PA and Lloyd Kincaid of Rivesville WV. (skeleton crew). Casting began immediatly for the Hunters and on April 1st the first shot went off near the slate dump on Greentown hill. We shot the end of the movie in 2 days. The skeleton crew had grown by 2 with the addition of "nny" and "jezabelle" from Wierton WV. We knew after those two days that we had something special so we scrambled to cast the main characters and began shooting again on May 7th and the skeleton crew grew once more by 2 with the addition of Chris Allen and Joey Bruce of Baltimore MD. We were so enammered with the lead cast that even the story began to grow and by the end of summer we had a 91 minute film. We had a private v.i.p. screening at the Warner Theatre in Morgantown WV on Oct. 28th 2006. Then the real work began as Whittle and Mahalick (whittled) the film to 78 minutes while adding layer upon layer to the body of the film. Again on Dec. 30th we screened Hatchet Jack open to the public at the Metropolitan Theatre. After seeing the new version on the big screen Mahalick and Whittle went back to work and on 1-22-07 had the final cut completed at 1:18 am. Mahalick Sago, and Whittle have spent the last year of thier lives with Hatchet Jack and are now ready to kick him out of the nest so that he can be with YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
