You need to lend your ear and listen mother fuckerz!
If you’re looking for a ride full of energy, determination and heavy metal, lend your ears to Worcester’s tightest metal and hardcore band, Hated.
In the summer of 2003, guitarist Russ Wyman and drummer Jesse Sargent laid down the foundation for a group comprised of musicians with experience and the common goal to rock the city. After collaborating for 6 months, Russ and Jesse seriously sought after the perfect singer and bassist to compliment their solid metal riffs, raw emotion and ear bleeding style of drumming. One of the missing pieces finally came when Bill Shultz, longtime friend and singer, joined the band in January of 2004. Then called Trendkill, it wasn’t until early 2005 when a bassist, Criss Gill, joined and clicked with the rest of the band. With the new name Hated and Criss, a graduate of Northeastern University, they took Criss’ music industry degree and pure enthusiasm to round out the pack.
Over the course of two years, the band has made a name for themselves in the New England metal scene opening for such bands as Shootyz Groove, Metal Church and Powerman 5000. In the summer of 2006, Hated began recording their first full-length EP, “Behind the Mask”. The album was showcased on June 30th of 2007 in the band’s hometown and attracted a jam-packed crowd to celebrate the release. The album was distributed throughout New England on July 3rd of 2007 with many sold at stores and at live shows.
As of February 2008, Hated now consists of the original string arrangement of Russ and Criss alongside Josh Sherman, ex-frontman of local favorites, Officer Down, and New York native, Mike Petracca. The pack is more musically dominant than ever before with Josh’s trademark vocals and Mike's intricate drumming style.
With creative intro’s and an “anything can happen” attitude, Hated’s set is solid, dominating and entertaining with songs like “Find Yourself”, a testament to hardcore and “Own” which brings blistering attacks and in your face vocals. It is easy to feel the energy and passion of the group with the melodic sounds of “Noose” and the EP title, “Behind the Mask”. Within their set you can often find a performance of the new acoustically written song, “Rise Above”, which exemplifies their musical flavor. The newly written songs, “Bitter”, "Trials", and "Unstable" showcases the growth and variety of talent in Hated. It utilizes sweat-pouring rhythm sections and catchy melodic vocals to produce that heavy groove that is sure to make anyone move.
No matter how much Hated’s music may grow and evolve, Russ, Criss, Josh and Mike continue to follow their musical goals to not only continue to gain fans, but always to play hard, heavy and with passion.
