HATI is an audiovisual project based on sound of ethnic instruments from all over the world as well as hand-made instruments or found objects. HATI forms a link between a personal interest in modern improvised and acoustic music with ritual and meditation. Since 2003 HATI have performed many times in Poland, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Northern Ireland and England and on festivals, e.g.: Equinox Festival (London, 2009), Bleisound Festival (Monachium, 2009), Wroclaw Industrial Festival (2005 & 2007), Audio Art (Krakow, 2006), Ambient Festival (Gorlice, 2008), Open'er Festival (Gdynia, 2008), Festiwal w Krajobrazie (Inowlodz, 2004-2007), Temple of Silence Festival (2007 & 2008). In 2006 members of HATI organized and performed 2 tours with Z’EV, one of the founders of ‘industrial' - the cultural movement. All HATI albums received very good reviews, their unusual magic sound and power was emphasized. The band was founded in 2001 by Rafal Iwanski and Dariusz Wojtas. They formed many psychedelic rock and industrial experimental musical projects since the beginning of the 90’. Since 2007 HATI have performed as a duo: Rafal X-NAVI Iwanski and Rafal SABON Kolacki and ocasionally with Dariusz Brzostek. They are also the organizers of CoCArt Music Festival (in cooperation with Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun).

--- 'KA': A gong is a wonderful thing; as for gong players, it can seem that just owning one is 80 per cent of the gig. Boom - you filled the room. HATI have plenty of them, and those deep-throat gamelan monsters commence to roar on "Moondrone", a warm, satisfying righteousness emanates in all directions. This 14 minute piece is the longest and finest thing here, though the stroked metal of the title track is also pretty effective. The nicely titled "Lullaby for Somnambulist" is a wave-tossed voyage across a sea of oil drums. /.../ HATI can work magic when they coax mysterious moans from metal, or build less obvious rhythmic patterns. Simplicity and sheer range of instruments are their strenghts. The closer "Aleph" is a hooting matrix of blown tubes, a quadrille for owls.

--- Toruńskie HATI to najoryginalniejsza formacja jaka pojawiła się na polskiej scenie w nowym wieku. Imponują też konsekwencją, która owocuje nieustanną falą koncertów i wydawnictw. Zespół zaistniał na przecięciu minimal music i industrialu, ale w gruncie rzeczy ich muzyka to po prostu dynamiczne rzeźby dźwiękowe zgłębiające wymiary psychoaktywnych brzmień. Testowali wszelakie instrumenty perkusyjne, korzystając równocześnie z odpadów przemysłowych, jak i okazów etnicznych spoza kultury Zachodu. Na „KA”, HATI w składzie poszerzonym do tria stawia na różnorodność. Są tu subtelne studia brzmieniowe, których inwencja i bogactwo może zawstydzić wolnych improwizatorów i producentów elektroniki. Są też monumentalne transy, sugestywnie kreujące aurę rytuału. Wrażliwi na najdrobniejsze niuanse dźwięku, HATI budują potężną dramaturgię. Angażują uważnego słuchacza bez reszty i pozostawiają go w inspirującej sytuacji tajemnicy i niedopowiedzenia.

--- Na 'KA' pierwiatek rytualny góruje nad medytacyjnym. W nagraniach zarejestrowanych podczas sesji typu "na żywo w studiu" muzycy ujawniają nieodkrywane wcześniej pokłady energii i improwizatorskiej inwencji. Głębokie drone'y gongów przegryzają się z rozpryskującym, nieczystym brzmieniem złomu. Doskonała metalowo-akustyczna odtrutka na wylewający się obficie zewsząd botoks i silikon.

--- 'KA'. Nowa płyta HATI - nowy skład. Do duetu Iwański/Kołacki dołączył Dariusz Brzostek, który udziela się w sześciu z ośmiu utworów. Główną zmianą, jaką wprowadza do brzmienia zespołu jest harmonium, które zapewnia podłoże dla innych dźwięków. Na szczęście jest ono odpowiednio dawkowane, nie mamy do czynienia z bezkresami łatwego dronowania. Nowy członek jest raczej kolejnym elementem pasującym do układanki, niż nową zmienną (i to nie zarzut - wręcz przeciwnie). Mimo pewnej ewolucji, w tej muzyce ciągle ważny jest rytm, czego nie zwiastuje pierwsza kompozycja. Ze swoim morsko-leśnym szemraniem mógłby być wstępem do jakiegoś delikatnego fińskiego freak-folku. Innym skojarzeniem jest 23 skidoo, zwłaszcza początek "The Culling is Coming", który przypomina się podczas wciągająco rozbujanego, wielowarstwowego, 14-minutowego "Moondrone" (może też jakieś mrugnięcie w kierunku Moondoga?), który stanowi centrum albumu. Następujący po nim utwór tytułowy ze swoją (cofniętą jednak) ścianą metalicznych szmerów odwołuje w okolice "Works for Scrap Metal". To zresztą robi też kolejny, "Industrial Règime" przez wykorzystanie łańcuchów do grania. Po nich nieco spokojniejsze utwory: opierające się na harmonium "Lullaby for Somnambulist" (trudny gatunek z pewnością) i najbardziej powietrzne "Aleph". Choć dostrzegam logikę w budowaniu dramaturgii i całościowej narracji albumu, to jednak wydaje mi się on odrobinę za długi (63 minuty). Ale to tylko mały minus, który nie ma wielkiego znaczenia wobec satysfakcji, jaką daje ta muzyka. Zwraca uwagę bogactwo faktur, które nie przygniata jednak rytmicznej ruchliwości. --- 'Die Mechanik, Die!' /.../ Plyta wydana zostala tym razem wyjatkowo niekonwencjonalnie jak na Beast Of Prey, mianowicie w... estetycznym digipacku. I zadnej, chocby nawet najmniejszej srubki Infamis do tego nie dodal! No tego jeszcze nie bylo, czapki z glów. Ale zarty na bok, zajmijmy sie muzyka. /.../ HATI to juz uznana marka na rynku. Unikalne podejscie w kwestii instrumentów (przynajmniej w naszym kraju), sporo koncertów w kraju i zagranica, wspólpraca z wybitnymi artystami. To wszystko powoduje, ze nawet osobnik srednio zorientowany w tym co sie dzieje w polskim swiatku industrialnym powinien kojarzyc przynajmniej nazwe HATI. /.../ Wystarczy posluchac chocby drugiego fragmentu (utwory nosza tytuly od I do VI). Niby spokojny i wyciszony a jednak dzwieki przypominajace jeki uposledzonych dzieci w polaczeniu z gluchymi dronami robia takie wrazenie, ze mozna za przeproszeniem narobic pod siebie. Musze w tym miejscu wspomniec, ze zarówno te jak i inne odglosy muzycy generuja za pomoca raczej nietypowych instrumentów, ze wspomne o gongach chinskich, tajskich i stalowych, grzechotkach, rogach, tubach czy dzwonach. Najpelniej to wszystko brzmi chyba w szóstym, ostatnim, orientalnie zabarwionym fragmencie. Koniec konców przyznaje, ze plyta podoba mi sie bardzo. Byc moze jeszcze za wczesnie na takie stwierdzenia, byc moze musze jeszcze nabrac nieco dystansu, ale co tam... moim zdaniem to jak na razie najlepsze wydawnictwo Beast Of Prey jakie w ogóle sie ukazalo.

--- 'Works for Scrap Metal'. 100% Recycled Sound Installation – glosi napis na pieczeci wewnatrz okladki. Muzyka z recyklingu? Ba, ze smietnika i ze zlomowiska. Dzwonki z gwozdzi, gongi z patelni i pokryw od pralek, kanistry, metalowe beczki, a nawet felgi i resory. Instrumentarium z odzysku. Przypominac moze o prorokach industrialu z Einstürzende Neubauten i Test Department na czele. HATI idzie jednak wlasna sciezka, ktora wiedzie wprost do korzeni. Miast na halas, stawiaja na sublimacje tych zrodlowych dzwiekow. Z jednej strony przypominaja o wynalazczej inwencji instrumentalistow z Afryki i Karaibow, a z drugiej przywoluja subtelne dociekania awangardy minimal music. --- ‘HATI vs. Z’EV 1’ It's a combination of drone music, sometimes quasi new age and sometimes ritualistik music. For their latest release (their fourth one) they send a whole bunch of their recordings to Z'EV with a request to him to treat the material in anyway he sees fitting. Not a strange request, since Z'EV worked with percussive material since the late sixties and worked in many sorts of percussive music but also the world of sound/studio treatments is not a stranger to him. I must say that even when Z'EV did a great job, it may not necessarily mean that he radically altered the material, like he did on his 'Headphone Music' or his collaborations with Chris Watson and KK Null. Rather he stays close to the original only subjecting some of the finer nuances of the material, sometimes adding some effects to accentuate the sustains and make it more drone related, and sometimes the whole thing seems a matter of editing the material down. Z'EV did a great job on this, but then I believe that HATI delivered him material that he could easily relate to, it's common ground for him to get the best out of this. It doesn't work the more radical textures that Z'EV is also known for, but it's a strong and subtle work of subconscious sound.

--- ’Zero Coma Zero’: There's a really elegant economy of means about HATI's approach to music - out of quite humble, often improvised, acoustic instrumentation, they manage to create eloquent and evocative works. I'm tempted to dub what they do musica povera, after the arte povera art movement epitomized by the mixed media work of Joseph Beuys. But regardless of what you call it, HATI's music is innovative and inspired. As far as I'm aware, nobody else is doing quite what they're doing at the moment, although they have affinities with Z'EV (who's both toured and made an album with HATI) and ritual ambient acts like Terroritmo, COTA and Chaos As Shelter. HATI's work taps into some very deep, primordial, shamanic places.

--- 'Recycled Magick Emissions', which is a 3" CDR where they reach the perfection of their sound. Densely layered, using reversed sounds, minimal changes and throughout mostly acoustic sounding. As winter hibernation and spring awakening gives way to summer, Halo Manash rises radiant into luminosity, with wings spread into all worlds, and brings forth Taiwaskivi, an opulent work of solar ambience and primordial Ur-music.
Taiwaskivi, a work of sonic flame and aural ash, consists of seven interrelated tracks, utilizing such diverse instrumentation as organ, horns, vocals, drums, gongs, percussions and various string instruments as well as field-recordings captured during the pilgrimage that the creation of the work embodies.
An air of finality abounds, as Taiwaskivi, although a complete work in itself, can also be viewed as the third and final facet of a tripartite series of works that are part of one holistic creation – a treelogy, with seed, root, trunk and finally, branches. Being the culmination of an ascending journey through the aforementioned realms within and without, Taiwaskivi is the celestial crown at the peak, reaching toward Sol, source and beyond; it is the leaves and fruit of the branches and their skybound nectar ever-flowing - the sacred fire, the consummation and conjunction of All.
