Let the Story begin….After many years locked in a dark cellar Hayley Faye dusted off her red shoes, ventured outside and embarked on a little mission. The first person she found was a Public Pervert who directed Hayley Faye to the Empire of magical people. When Hayley arrived at her destination she discovered a little magic girl called Babysleepmode who had a friend called Andy the Bass man. Andy told Hayley that he had read The News and saw a picture of a little drummer boy called Dan (Dannyboy to be precise), the page turned and the picture was complete. They all lived happy together in a Scooby Doo van and played outside as The Hayley Faye Band

Right on the heels of last year’s demo, local songstress Hayley Faye’s first formal single release, is a suitably pleasant vehicle. Here she works well with her band to stir the mix of edgy indie and folk derived ideas, into a fairly riot influenced rock and roll excursion. I’m not sure about the topic of “Babysleepmode” – it’s a sharp but cute observational piece, but the title just puts me oddly in mind of something from Fischerprice. Luckily the tunes speak for themselves. Ida Maria has been mentioned before as a reference, but there’s something a little more refined about Faye’s melodies and lyrics – “Kings And Queens” is an exceptional song on all fronts as it supplies a solid traditional beat to some routine jangles and u-turns them all into something very special indeed...looks like a more than successful musical career is beckoning for Hayley

Hayley Faye, keeping a cool, precocious head in a world full of posturing rock’n’roll delinquents, is something of a true pop dilettante. In the ten years since she first appeared on the Manchester gig scene, art graduate Hayley has straddled the worlds of music and visual art; the high-brow and the populist, like a Mancunian female version of Damon Albarn. Affable, chatty yet coolly enigmatic her most significant breakthrough arrived in the last two years; when she hooked up with band members Andy Whittaker (on bass) and Dan Lewis (drums), and started penning material which she describes as being: “much more open and honest. Lyrically packing a punch, The Hayley Faye Band also deliver plenty of muscle power in the musical stakes, too. Commandingly driven by Andy and Dan’s propulsive rhythm section, the band are an anachronistic yet fantastically vibrant rock’n’roll beast; informed by rockabilly, mod-pop and stomping blues-rock, the end result sounding like a pop-heavy White Stripes playing Johnny Cash songs. And for all Hayley’s arty background, she’s definitely a songwriter who thankfully doesn’t take things too seriously. Her lyrical approach is as much comical raised eyebrow as it is deeply soul-searching, as proven by standout track Kings and Queens, a blackly humorous look at Manchester’s Gay Village.
Steve Lamacq, Radio 1 (on playing the demo of babysleepmode)
“when you see Hayley walking down the red carpet at the Brit Awards, remember where you heard her first”.

"The Hayley Faye Band have been intensively gigging and the hard work seems to be paying off – and the fact they kindly stepped in at the last minute as cover for a band that has pulled garnered them thanks from the promoters.
It’s not a substitution as such much a worthwhile addition in their own right. Hayley seems to have exercised her own identity issues - she was previously in a band called Hannah - and the exuberance spills from the band to the crowd.
They blast away from the start and provide a perfect way to say goodbye to January and look forward to sunny days."

"It's pushing half nine, so I've completely missed Hayley Faye's scheduled time at Friends Of Mine, and at this point I'm actually pleased that the event is running as late as expected, as I've been meaning to catch one of her sets for a while. She always showed promise fronting South Manchester indie trio Hannah, but in the three or so years since I last saw her play, the shy little girl's very much grown up. She looks absolutely cool as fuck with her customised acoustic guitar, Converse boots and jet black hair, and her music has the bite and attitude to match. The tunes are glorious upbeat Smiths-ish indie with a dash of country, completely free from the navel-gazing drivel you often get with female (and indeed male) singer-songwriters. Her final, spiky 'Shake" sees a few people moving their dancing feet. You can't help it, really.'"

"Hayley Faye to those in the know has been a presence on the local music scene since her mid-teens, her shakey, enchanting melodies are now dirtied up and swing with an excitement that’s now informed by modern indie, whilst still being indebted by the very best parts of the female singer/songwriter genre. This live demo shuffles and bounces along and if you’re looking for a near neighbour, look in the direction of Ida Maria who trades in similar edgy rock fashions. Where Faye has the leverage is in the range and quality of her self penned songs which make her a very signable proposition."

"The first track my itunes decided to play (who knows why) was actually the last, 'Art Teacher' and wow, what an introduction to Hayley Faye that was.
It's fun and possibly my favourite of the three. I must admit to being a fan of the female acoustic singer/songwriter genre so she had me on her side from the word go but ignoring such a small bias the three tracks on the live demo wrack up points all the way.
The opening track 'Babysleepmode' is bouncy and energetic and draws you in from the start. It is perfect for singing along to and even dancing around your front room when you're alone. The middle track, 'Song For The Deaf' is a change in tone somewhat. The lyrics are massively cute! The music comes in waves, alternating between being soft and hard keeping the listening hooked throughout."

"A Jangly song seamstress, groovy bass to provide a more mainstream background to what is refreshingly original. Hayley has a commanding stage presence and her lyrics accent this brilliantly. Meaningful verses followed by effortlessly punchy choruses. Superb."
TL - 3/3
"She has a wonderful voice, caring and beautiful live, so much ability in her song writing with just the right amount of folk influence to float this possibly under-engineered sound above water. We don't usually talk about lyrics, but these are quite spectacular. Somehow it can seem messy at times, but character throws itself at you throughout..."

The FOURTH day of JULY, 2009, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of JABEZ CLEGG. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to THE BARREL. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.
