  • Bio

Manchester based label Haystack Records was formed by Pete Ord in 2009. Specializing in British Folk and Roots music, Haystack Records aims to represent the vibrant and flourishing folk communities in both the rural and urban areas of 21st Century Britain. Folk music is a living, breathing entity and here at Haystack Records we encourage and support the new breed of folk musician to take the culture as their own whilst respecting and continuing the tradition from which it has developed. Haystacks philosophy is to promote modern British folk music as well as preserving the folk tradition whilst making it accessible to a young and vibrant audience. Our debut release 'Bruce Wilson - M'appen I May' features a selection of Cumbrian songs previously unreleased in both audio and songbook form. Hand picked by Cumbrian singing legend Bruce Wilson 'M'appen I May' takes predominantly unknown songs to a national audience, helping to promote and preserve the traditions of this often forgotten region. Described by Sue Allen of English Dance and Song magazine '…M'appen I May gives us a precious glimpse into a Cumbrian world which has almost disappeared, and is an important addition to any collection of traditional regional song. And it's a fascinating listen or read.' (EDS)
