....FROM THE HILLS OF EAST KENTUCKY! ...... ...... .......... Take Me Back to East Kentucky.. Paintings by John Haywood.. @The Appalachian Center of Berea College/ Berea, Kentucky.. September 1st- October 18th, 2009.. .... East Kentucky native John Haywood paints the real Kentucky. His painted narratives tell the stories of the East Kentucky hills as passed down from many generations of musicians, singers, storytellers, and just plain old folks. The artwork reflects a beautiful and rich culture that is many a times covered up and exploited by outside stereotypes of the region. Plus Merchandise and more. .. .... .. I was borned and raised in the east Kentucky hills in a holler called Risner. The only thing I've ever been good at is drawing and playing music. My papaw was a coal miner and old regular baptist singer who told me he didn't want me to work in the mines. He told me to get a good education, so that's what I did. But now we're back in good ol' East KY. I make my living painting, teaching, and playin' some banjo. So I really can't complain. .... .. ...... ........ ....
