Drummer John Quirk was born and raised on the Isle of Man and is a major 1960's music fan who has been playing drums since 2003. He is a retired secondary school educator, and like the other HW members, lives in South Manchester. John plays drums in another band and plays cornet in Stretford Brass. John uses a Prestige Drum Kit and a Shure SM58 vocal mic. His favorite artists include The Kinks, The Searchers, The Hollies, and The Spencer Davis Group.
Bassist Phil Hoskins has firm roots in the late 1970's Manchester punk scene. He was born in Hull and has lived throughout Cheshire. He is currently Sale Fire Station's Watch Commander. After working as a singer in a punk band, Phil decided that playing the bass would come next. "It was the one instrument big enough for these hands," Phil loves The Ramones, The Jam, The Sex Pistols, The Clash; and any other band that begins with a The. Phil plays Fender Jazz 24 and Vision basses through a 120-watt Behringer amp, so keep small children and pets safe.
Andy Mealor, self described "bedroom guitarist," has played since he was a teen in Cheshire. At age 13, Andy was in a band with Johnny Marr. "We always had the amps turned up too loud. I'm sure we'd have sounded better if we'd just turned them down a little." Andy is a project manager at Adam Telecom, and his computer wizardry helps when it's time to find those free tabs and mp3s. His current favorite guitar is his Gordon Smith GS-2. Andy also plays a Line 6 Variax and Fender Strat guitars and he uses Peavey valve amps.
Annie Muse was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan and moved to South Manchester in 2000. She uses a Line 6 Spider 210 amp and plays a 1983 Fender Strat, a Westfield SR-383 electro-acoustic, a Michael Kelly Legacy FSE mandolin, and a 2002 Gibson ES-335 called "Gretchen." Annie loves Matt Groening and Mike Judge cartoons, and wants to be Mark Knopfler when she grows up. Annie has been playing music since age seven and is a guitar and bass tutor. She also does voluntary work for new way forward, a local mental-health charity.
Sound Engineer Kate Cook is a lecturer in law at Manchester Metropolitan University and has lived in Sale for most of her life. Kate has a classical music background and played viola in school, but preferred The Beatles and The Buzzcocks. She plays a Steinberger Spirit 5-string bass and sings in some HW songs. Kate does voluntary work for Truth About Rape and the Campaign to End Rape.

Hazardous Waist is a 4-piece rock band with the traditional lineup of two guitars, bass, and drums. We began when founders Phil and Andy working together at Club Guitar gigs in Altrincham and Sale. Annie joined in late 2005. Paul Baddeley answered our Loot ad in December 2005 and we were complete. Paul has now moved on and we have been working with John Quirk since late 2008. John brings a whole new focus and feel to our music and we look forward to many projects with him.
We work on originals along with all the covers we play. As older musicians, we know what we like and what we don't. The modern definition of R&B simply does not apply here. Our music is 100 percent live, mistakes and all. The band has Public Liability Insurance and our equipment is PAT tested.
We do one charity gig each year, rasing over £300 for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund in 2006, £375 for Trafford Diabetes Care in 2007, and £605 for Breast Cancer Care in 2008. We raised £845 for The Fire Fighters' Charity in 2009, with the help of Quiet Desperation.
