Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- A homeless Canadian man, believed
killed by a commuter train in Toronto last week, showed up on his
sister's front porch while a funeral service for him was taking
place a few blocks away, the Globe and Mail reported.
Dane Squires, 48, was often missing and his sister, Diane
Branton, had identified him as the deceased because the dead
person's hair, teeth and nose resembled Squires', the Globe said.
Branton had stayed home from the service, too distraught to
attend. The service was interrupted with the news that Squires
was alive, the Globe said.
Barry McLelland, Ontario's chief coroner, said proper
procedures were followed in identifying the body. The identity of
the dead man still isn't known, the newspaper said.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A 53-year-old woman was arrested for taking
over a family's house -- moving their things out and hers in -- while the
Georgia family was on vacation.
Police said Beverly Valentine has not said why she moved into the house in
Douglasville, some 15 miles west of Atlanta, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported.
Valentine reportedly did not know the people who live in the house, leaving
authorities at a loss as to why this particular house was chosen.
The move-in was total, police said. When homeowner Beverly Mitchell returned
form 2 1/2 weeks in Greece, she found Valentine had removed all the Mitchell's
furniture, moved her own in; changed pictures on the wall and repainted a room.
Valentine even had the electric bill changed to her name the television station
said.
"Now we have portraits on the wall that we didn't have before. And we've got
all kinds of new appliances," Mitchell told WSB.
Valentine was charged with burglary and was being held at the Douglas County
jail.
A Spanish researcher has discovered group sex behavior in a common type of frog found in the Pyrenees region between Spain and France. David Vieites, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, has overturned the widely held belief that the common Rana temporaria species mates in the straightforward way other amphibians do. That involves a male frog which grasps a female and fertilizes the eggs she releases into a floating clutch. Vietes has found so many males are vying for fatherhood, they grasp the clutch as they would a female and release sperm, often successfully fertilizing the eggs left unfertilized after the initial encounter. In one pond studied, 84 percent of all clutches had been fertilized by more than one male. "This is the first example of such a complex mating behavior in amphibians undergoing external fertilization," Vieites said. "Because of a population excess of males, the males found a system to reproduce without the female."
"With their long tongues they are adept at pulling insects out of their hiding places and licking honey from cracks in trees."
