Hazmat has been performing all over Northern Colorado since March of 2008 and has enjoyed many great gigs and audiences , a favorite being Thunder In The Rockies this past Labor Day weekend . Hazmat is Steve Landreth, most recently with Steel Toad , and a veteran of touring bands . Steve played in Denver and beyond with Betty Rocker and Rook in the 90's . He is still a serious student of the guitar , studying with Dave Beegle , and is a native of Northern Colorado . Monty Hogan , has a degree in classical organ from CSU , and studied with Dr. Janet Landreth , Robert Cavarra and studied jazz with Mark Sloniker . Monty plays keys , guitar , violin , and more , and is currently teaching junior high school orchestra . Monty is a Northern Colorado native . Bassist Leo B. helped form the band , but left to pursue other projects in September 2008 , and his replacement , Tom Brassard , turned out to be a perfect fit . Unfortunately , he and his family had recently relocated here from Nevada and had a hard time making ends meet and decided to go back to Nevada . Enter Mark Turnbull in January 2009 , our newest bassist , who is another fine musician who has performed all over the country and beyond , in a variety of bands and musical styles . He studied at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City , and has an interest in world music , jazz and North Indian vocal music . He also plays sitar , and is psyched to get back to his " hippie classic rock roots " , after stints playing latin and greek music ! Check out Mark's greek band in Boston on youtube , search for " Journey To Ithaca " . Mark is the only non-native , hailing from Illinois . Tim Elliott played drums and sang lead vocals in Wall of Dogs from 1999-2008 and is a veteran of numerous bands and tours . Tim's first professional band included future Yngwie Malmsteen / Soul Sirkus / Talisman / Journey singer Jeff Scott Soto . Tim spent the late 80's and 90's in Pennsylvania trying to make it big . His bands opened for Kix , Zakk Wylde , Foghat , Blue Oyster Cult , Pat Travers , Molly Hatchet , Dirty Looks , Live , Dangerous Toys and more . But being a Northern Colorado native , he missed the mountains too much after ten years , and moved back to Colorado . Sherri Elliott , also an alumnus of Wall Of Dogs , runs sound and contributes lead and backing vocals , taking the stage for half a set , and singing from behind the board with a headset mike the rest of the evening . The hapHAZMAT piecing together of musicians from the Fort Collins area were a fresh breath of air on the scene in 2008 , playing old school, vintage rock with conviction and authority . Steve wails with authentic Marshall cabs and Strats. Monty, man of many instruments, pounds the keys through his Leslie speaker , and also grabs his Strat once in a while , all while sharing the bulk of the lead vocals with drummer Tim Elliott . Tim is a virtual nuclear reactor from behind the skins , playing and singing in a freakishly coordinated way all night long . Mark holds the whole thing down to the ground , and is a master of his fretless and 5 string Warwick basses . Hazmat makes a big sound ! All women want them and all men want to be like them. But there are only four to go around for everybody . Seriously , though , folks , this band is poised to be one of the best Northern Colorado has to offer in 2009 !
