Pier Plaza Farmer's Market - A Part of the Friday Afternoon Experience at Huntington Beach, California

Farmer's Market Huntington Beach is a coastal food shopping pleasure for tourists and locals who seek certified farm fresh, California grown produce. Held most Friday afternoons in Huntington Beach at Pier Plaza parking lot, it runs from around Noon to 5 p.m. This market travels from city to city and can be found in Newport Beach, Balboa, Long Beach, Anaheim, Irvine and many more Orange County locations, as well as cities throughout California. In Huntington Beach, the Farmer's Market is often held in conjunctions with a shopping fair of hand-crafted gift items such as jewelry, clothing, rugs, artwork, plaques, home decor and much more from around 50 - 100 crafters.

Below is the general schedule of Farmer's Market events in Huntington Beach. The events are subject to change and Farmer's Market is sometimes cancelled when it rains.

If you seek apples, oranges, lettuce, nuts, beef jerky, grapefruit, seasonal fruits, fresh cut flowers, flowers potted in dirt, and much more, be sure to schedule your Friday afternoon for a Farmer's Market visit. The parking is limited in the parking lot directly at the market, though there is additional Huntington City Beach parking and metered parking along Pacific Coast Highway.

Farmer's Market is an outdoor market sponsored by the Orange County Farm Bureau. Flowers, fruit, breads, nuts and a few specialty foods are sold fresh to the consumer. This Farmer's Market has been voted by media and the public as one of the most scenic outdoor markets in Southern California and especially in Orange County, where it is located on the coast between Los Angeles and San Diego.

A variety of restaurants, including the world famous Dukes and Chimayo's are just a few feet away. Don't miss the glazed tile, mural wall, Poet's Table, depicting scenes from Huntington Beach history. It provides a fantastic spot to take a souvenir photo. Huntington Beach Dog Beach is located in a stretch of Huntington City Beach along Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint Street and Golden West Street. You must drive south on Pacific Coast Highway beyond Seapoint Street to enter the closest parking lots to this beach, where pay meters charge $0.25 per 10 minutes. Dog Beach is a public beach open free of charge as the only beach where you may take your dog in Huntington Beach. It is located down a sloped hill north of the parking lots. Hotels that accept dogs include Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort (10 pounds or less), Residence Inn Huntington Beach, The Pacific Inn - Seal Beach (7 miles from Dog Beach), Balboa Inn in Newport Beach (8.5 miles). Located at Towers 20, 22 and 24, Huntington Beach Dog Beach has its own clean up employees who clean up the beach seven days a week. They work in conjunction with work in conjunction with Lifeguards and Police Officers and request your help in picking up by utilizing one of the 60 dog bag dispensers between 9th Street and Seapoint Street. Children and adults walk on the same beaches and swim in the water, sharing it with the dogs so it is important to keep the area clean for all life.

    -Surf Museum-
    Photobucket

Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum contains collections of surfing memorabilia and the culture surrounding this time honored sport believed to be imported to Huntington Beach and California nearly a century ago. Duke Kahanamoku, the Father of Surfing, frequented Huntington Beach, California from Hawaii, introducing surfboards and surfing to the local audience.

Surfing has taken off and grown into a multi-billion dollar sports industry with products, competitions and clothing. There are over 50 surfing competitions each year in Huntington Beach, plus a Surfing Walk of Fame, Surfers' Hall of Fame and public art honoring surfing.

The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum is considered one of the best internationally and receives visitors from around the world. The museum is very affordable and includes rotating exhibits (one of our all-time favorites is an electric surfboard.) When visiting Huntington Beach, stop by the downtown museum just off Main Street at Olive. The shop contains great surfing items and CDs. You will not be sorry you made the effort to check it out and discover the heritage, the culture and the current vibe of surfing in California and the world.

Shrine to Duke: The International Surfing Museum in Huntington Beach, California, built a shrine to honor the Father of Surfing, Duke Kahanamoku. A statue which used to stand at the base of the Huntington Beach Pier has been relocated and sits inside the museum entrance, surrounded by tropical flowers. Beneath a life-size bust of Duke's smiling face is a plaque. Here is what it says:

DUKE KAHANAMOKU -OLYMPIC SWIMMER, PUBLIC SERVANT, GOOD WILL AMBASSADOR OF THE STATE OF HAWAII, AND CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE FATHER OF THE UNITED STATE SURFING MOVEMENT, IN THE EARLY 20'S, THE DUKE SURFED UNDER THIS VERY PIER. SOME FIFTY YEARS LATER HE RETURNED TO THIS COMMUNITY TO HELP PROMOTE THE UNITED STATES SURFBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS. FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS UNTIL HIS DEATH, THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WERE DEDICATED IN HONOR OF THIS MAN'S GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO THE SPORT OF SURFING. THE CITIZENS OF HUNTINGTON BEACH HAVE ERECTED THIS MONUMENT AS A TRIBUTE TO THE CHAMPION OF CHAMPION SURFERS. THE IMAGE HE CREATED, THE PRINCIPLE OF FAIR PLAY, AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP HE ADVOCATED SHOULD BE PRESERVED FOR ALL TIME. ALTHOUGH MORTAL MAN HAS LOST THIS RARE HUMAN BEING, HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS LOVE. ALOHA

Huntington Beach is such a beautiful place to live. You'll fall in love and never want to leave. How can you not be swept by the romance of the sea? As the big golden globe sets over Catalina Island (the island of romance) Huntington Beach comes alive with colors never seen. Have you seen my HB -- the HB locals know and love? It's a beautiful paradise of color and light, water & sand.

Ideal for weddings, one of the premier beaches, Huntington Beach, includes 8.5 miles of sandy beaches stretching along the Pacific Ocean that are free for the public to use for outdoor recreation. Located in Orange County between Newport Beach, Long Beach and Anaheim's Disneyland, Huntington Beach features pleasant weather, the famous Huntington Beach Pier, beautiful sunsets (see Photo Gallery), huge beaches, bike riding or jogging paths next to the ocean and supreme surfing.

Huntington Beach California USA - Are you looking for a great information about our favorite city, Huntington Beach? This beach town offers beach sports, resorts and the old-fashioned Main Street nightlife that's simple, a bit funky and comfortably casual. Part of the California beaches experience, visit and see why guests have such a great time.

Main Street is the spot to shop and dine. There are hundreds of places within the city and nearby in Huntington Beach, which features warm, sandy beaches along the Pacific Ocean, beckoning tourists to play. This safe city has the longest municipal concrete pier in California, 8.5 miles of smooth sand, mild climate all year long and some of the best surfing waves in the United States. With natural beauty reminiscent of the Hawaiian Islands, over 11 million people are drawn each year to this Southern California location.

Annual events in Surf City may keep you in town, however. They include US Open of Surfing, skateboard and BMX competitions, Paintball World Series, 4th of July Parade, Duck-A-Thon and Halloween on Main Street. Those who love being outdoors can experience the waves, ride the skate parks and paths and lay on the sandy beach all year long. Adults, children and teens love to sit along Main Street, too, and dine on delicious foods while watching the parade of swim suits, surf boards and traffic pass through a five block stretch of shops and outdoor cafes. It's a casual place where the only suit you'll need is a swim suit or wet suit. Even the finest restaurants in town do not require neckties.

Each year in Huntington Beach there are new events from the Downtown HB, plus more sun, more sand and more fun. We've been out there pounding the pavement with our own 2 feet to bring you the best of Huntington Beach in this new Picture Events Calendar. With tons of photos of Huntington Beach to knock you off your socks, we're glad you found us and hope you'll enjoy the beach vibe in this very special place.

Huntington Beach, California features an incredible park system. There are approximately 70 parks that include almost 70 opportunities to hold a picnic or social event. From skate boarding to kayaking, baseball, softball, tennis and soccer to Frisbee golf, the choices are limitless. There's even a beautiful Huntington Beach Sports Complex for large sporting events. See photos and information about Huntington Beach Parks.

Conveniently located near major attractions and theme parks, Disneyland, California Adventure, Knotts Berry Farm, the Catalina Flyer to Catalina Island, Aquarium of the Pacific, Queen Mary Ship, Van's Skate Park at The Block and upscale South Coast Plaza Shopping Mall are all close by.

There's a 20-screen stadium-seating theater, Century Theatre in Huntington Beach, a dozen new restaurants, shops and even a catalog made for Huntington Beach residents. With so much happening, we're spinning with delight that things are coming into place for beautiful Huntington Beach.

-Halloween-
Photobucket
Southern California, home to Hollywood and make-believe, loves to celebrate fantasy both during the Academy Awards Celebration and Halloween. Halloween is not just a night of Trick or Treating for the kids, it's an opportunity for adults to concoct original and creative costumes and for one night be someone or something else. While some confess to planning their costumes months in advance, many start their search in October, scouting costume stores that rent apparel ranging in prices from $25 to $500 dollars. For over a decade, Huntington Beach, California's Main Street has closed around 4 p.m. on October 31 to make way for the annual Halloween Celebration. Downtown merchants hand out candy to trick or treat youth from 6 to 8:30 p.m. when the street is designated a children's fun zone. Moon bounces, pony rides, petting zoo, balloons and a costume contest all make this a night to remember. And it's totally free. What's especially interesting from a sociological perspective, however, is the ambiance that welcomes the 21 and older crowd who find downtown especially enjoyable and friendly on this fantasy night.

-Christmas-

When Santa Claus comes to town, he rides around on a motorcycle or a Huntington Beach Lifeguard truck. Huntington Beach is the quintessential Southern California town featuring a warm, laid back holiday style of fun, festivity and craziness that makes young and old alike laugh and enjoy life. Pictured above are the motorcycle Santa Clauses giving high fives to Huntington Beach's own Santa Claus who walked the downtown Main Street region, giving candy to boys and girls during the holiday season
