Named after a Kate Bush song of the same title, West Australian dance band Heads We’re Dancing has developed unique rhythms and melodies supported by strong lyrics and a big, global groove. Described as energetic, inspiring and innovative the band’s performances have attracted an enthusiastic following around their home state, and now on a global level following their recent UK tour, which included three weeks at one of the world’s biggest festivals. Reviews on our website from our time in the UK.
Celebrating their 12th year together, the 4-piece, consisting of Karla Dawson (vocals and keys), Alan Dawson (bass and vocals), Tom Francas (keys, guitar and vocals), and Mike Brady (percussion and vocals) has played at numerous festivals and venues in Western Australia including Fairbridge, Nannup, Down South and UWA Fringe Festivals, and was the support act for the WA leg of The Stiff Gins tour.
In 2005 HWD were included on the Kiss My WAMi CD compilation and have consistently performed at WAMI showcases (two-week long events held by the West Australian Music Industry Association).
Thanks largely to ArtsWA grants, the band has been able to tour the east coast of Australia and in July 2006 went on their first overseas tour spending over a month touring, starting at the Eastern Haze Festival in England, where they were on the main stage alongside retro legends Hawkwind, and culminating in a fifteen night residence at The Wee Red Bar as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Heads We’re Dancing were also invited to play on the main stage at the Fringe Sunday concert, an annual event which attracts an estimated 200,000 people, and during the festival they were asked to perform a night at the legenday "Jam House" In 2007 the band returned to the UK, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which included an invitation to perform at the "Australian Fringe Showcase" in the world renowned Spiegel Tent.
Heads We’re Dancing has released four successful CDs (Self-titled, Jagaavo, Headspace and Tunnel Vision). Dust and Sun, a track from Headspace, was described by DJ Wayne S of Discophonic Productions in the UK as "Never failing to transport me away from a rainy winters day here in the UK, with its exotic sunshine vibes". This track has received airplay in the UK, the USA and Canada. Inspired by this, DJ Wayne S and Greek producer El Padrino remixed the band's song What You Get. This remix is included on the band’s latest CD (Tunnel Vision) and this is now being played by DJ’s throughout the European club scene and invited interest from record labels at the 2005 London Calling event at Earls Court.

Jam’in out tunes over the West Coast, to increase awareness about Carbon Neutral and raise money for Trees For Life.
One effective way we can combat greenhouse gas emissions is to plant trees. Going carbon neutral is an easy way that we can all contribute to a solution by taking responsibility for the carbon dioxide emissions we create with our cars, airplanes and energy use.
