Music

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matchbox Twenty, Stone Temple Pilots, Nas, Dave Matthews Band, Vivaldi, Alice In Chains, Common, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, The Smithereens, Chris Cornell, Bach, Redman, Tool, REM, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Audioslave, Mos Def, Brahms, Motown, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, U2, Wu-Tang Clan, ATC, Electric Light Orchestra, Amy Winehouse, Foo Fighters, The Beatles, Rage Against The Machine, Oldies, and so many more. I dig World music too.

Movies

All About Eve is one of the greatest movie of all time. Bette Davis at her finest. Others at the top of my list include The Godfather, Part I & II, Aliens, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Usual Suspects, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Bad Seed, Kill Bill 1 & 2 and The Desperate Hours (the original with Bogie).

Wait, there's more - 12 Angry Men, Alien, All About My Mother, The Bad Sleep Well, The Birds, Cape Fear, Crash, Das Boot, Dial M for Murder, Dreams, Europa Europa, Experiment in Terror, Fanny and Alexander, Gallipoli, Gangs of New York, The Grapes of Wrath, Grave of the Fireflies, Hard Boiled, High and Low, Ichi the Killer, Indochine, The Iron Monkey (1996), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original), Jean De Florette, The Killing, La Femme Nikita (orignial), La Lectrice, The Magdalene Sisters, Malena, Matador, Memento, Millennium Actress, The Miracle Worker (original), Monsieur Hire, Mystic River, North by Northwest, Perfect Blue, Psycho, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Raise the Red Lantern, Ran, Rashomon, Rear Window, Repulsion, Return of the King, Rosemary's Baby, Run Lola Run, The Seven Samurai, Shadow of a Doubt, So Close, Spellbound, Strangers on a Train, Stray Dog, Suicide Club, Swimming Pool, Sword of Doom, Taking Lives, Talk to Her, Thirteen, Throne of Blood, War of the Worlds (original), The Well. I'm also crazy about Japanese, Australian, French, Spanish, Chinese, Canadian, anime and indie flicks too. (I'll label which ones are foreign and anime soon.)
Television

Prison Break, Supernatural, 24, Scrubs, The Unit, Criminal Minds, House, Dexter, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Closer, Law & Order (and the spin-offs), The Amazing Race, Family Guy, The 4400, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Numb3rs, Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, Medium, The Simpsons, The Shield, Inyasha, Fear Factor, Survivor, One Tree Hill, Full Metal Alchemist, Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck, Masterpiece Theatre, Jericho, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Without a Trace, The King of Queens, Las Vegas, Big Brother, Teen Titans, Baseball Tonight, CSI: Las Vegas, NY and Miami, ESPN Sports, The Sopranos, Seinfeld, The Wire, Smallville, The Twilight Zone, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and many, many more. Yes, I'm a TV junkie.
Books

My favorite author is Emile Zola. No one compares to him. I’ve collected most of his THE ROUGON-MACQUART series – I started back in 1996 and have 16 of the novels so far. I'm having trouble locating the rest. Coming in at a close second is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE and LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA blew me away. He’s an amazing storyteller. Other favorite authors include Guy de Maupassant, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, John Steinbeck and Dean Knootz. My favorite novel is THE STAND by Stephen King (the uncut version). Other unforgettable books are PERFUME (The Story of a Murderer) by Patrick Süskind, and THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES by Ray Bradbury.
Heroes

Jesus, Grandma Mamie, Emile Zola, Dave Williams, Rudy Q., Great-Grandmother Hicks, Great-Grandfather Hicks, Jack and Mary Wallace, Robert and John F. Kennedy, Manny Ramirez, my 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Herron, Martin Luther King, Dominique Trieger-Carter, Gandhi, the 2004 & 2007 Boston Red Sox, Vladamir the Sock Monkey, and countless others who have touched my life over the years.

Hello, my name is Lynne. I am currently enrolled at Santa Barbara City College, majoring in the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Program. I plan to work with children, teenagers and adults dealing with mental health problems and/or substance abuse after graduation.

I created Healthy Minds as a place to help promote well-being, spirituality, positive thinking and inner peace, and to explore the many faces of mental health, substance abuse, addiction and other important social issues. I plan to use the blog to share articles, books, interviews, health news, music, psychology, inspirational quotes, alternative medicine, and other topics promoting happiness, health and peace of mind. My hope is for people will ask questions, share our knowledge and stories, understand those in need, and to be caring and supportive of one another. I'd also like it to be a place to network and connect with other caring individuals, mental health counselors, support groups and organizations here in the United States and around the World.

I identify with turtles more than any other living creature. I'd die without good literature to read on a regular basis. I'm obsessed with the color purple. I have a huge crush on Manny Ramirez, the baseball god of the Boston Red Sox. Tumbleweeds scare me to death. I can't live without coffee.

My hobbies include writing stories, anime, cooking, digital photography, French literature, collecting rings and bracelets from around the world, birdwatching, watching TV and movies, gardening, studying human nature, making greeting and notecards, watching the Boston Red Sox play baseball, and drinking good coffee.

Please feel free to email me with any comments or questions. You can also find me here in myspaceland as Lynne/javaturtle.

Who I'd like to meet:

Other like-minded, caring, compassionate, fun loving and creative souls.

you are a candle
whose flickering flame
fills the darkness
with such brilliance

that the sun sets
in awe and the moon
and the stars are
aglow in wonder.
