Every super hero you have heard of brings a special skill to the table, whether it’s flying, having superhuman strength, or the ability to freeze time. The Hearos 4 Hire Mixtape presented by DJ Obi is not that different in concept. Every mc involved is one-of-a-kind, with an ability unlike any other. Hearos 4 Hire is the brainchild of DJ Obi, who worked with each emcee directly and decided to put everyone together on one project. You have Kaliban, South Central bred battle rapper known for quick ferocious flows. As a true life veteran of real street wars, Kaliban is a terrorist by nature, an expert with guns, and a grimm reaper on tracks. Then there is the wild card, Meyer Wolfsheim, the baritone wordsmith with a bone to pick. Adopting the name of a notorious gangster from the novel The Great Gatsby, Meyer Wolfsheim hits each beat as a sinister syllablist with a wave-like flow. Obvious steps up with that smooth professional flow, a crisp vocal tone, and a mellow swagger undoubtedly influenced by witnessing Snoop freestyle in the park back in the day. With a style so unique, it’s obvious that this Long Beach emcee is a Hearo indeed. Then there is Big Swish who comes with that classic delivery and cavalier confidence. Swish has a characteristically low voice that booms on tracks, filling your eardrums with its suave texture. Always redefining cool, Swish makes himself at home on every beat he touches, words couched comfortably in the rhythm. Last but definitely not least, Avatar enters the scene with a hybrid flow of Oakland, Los Angeles, and his own quirky cadence, Av’s words swing to the music like an irate chimpanzee from a vine. Dread-locked rogue producer Oddio contributes a couple beats and a guest appearance from mc Jag Bomb (FRC) adds more flavor to the track Operation Red Eye. Within the H4H organization, there are groups within the group. DJ Obi and Kaliban (co-founders of Think Green Records IN 2004) have coined themselves The Mint while Meyer Wolfsheim & Obvious are known as Zombé Squad. Hearos 4 Hire is the headquarters or mothership for these diverse collaborations. DJ Obi keeps this ship flying by dedicating himself to the mix, never allowing a dull moment, with accurate blends, effective cuts, and mixing in 6 original productions including The Mint’s ‘Sewaside’ from the 2007 horror/comedy movie Drive Thru (Lions Gate) as the final track. The result is a one hour adventure, a meeting of the minds, and an exciting hip-hop saga.
