   About heartbeeps

There is a lovely drone-iness to [Heartbeeps'] music, which is a happy marriage of super lo-fi and super-melodic. Glacial Valleys is probably their best song, clunkily lo-fi, vaguely Beta Band-ish, whilst Tramwajs is a symphony on toy instruments, nicely strained vocals and a male voice choir singing through paper cups. Heartbeeps sound homemade and unfocused, but in the very best kind of way, like a child's telescope made out of toilet rolls.
A NEW AND A DAY (UK)

For fans of Pavement or running The Unicorns through a tin processor, the UK's heartbeeps will fit your measuring cup. With substance to spare. The songs instantly glean your favorite smile-inducing sounds, creating round-two-minute gems that pop and hiss and could very well destroy.
THE CULTURE OF ME (US)

Times New Viking fans should look this way, as there's much the same no budget ideas overflow in miniatures going on here, only with a cheap-sounding keyboard.
SWEEPING THE NATION (UK)

2-minuters lo-fi-pop med uppenbara influenser från Casiotone For The Painfully Alone ... Fyra fina låtar är det i alla fall och det är väl bara en tidsfråga innan något creddigt bolag plockar upp en sådan här talang.
LET'S PRETEND WE'RE BUNNY RABBITS (Sweden)

THE MAN OF RENNES STEALS OUR HEARTS (France)

Heartbeeps' laptoptronica veers from abrasive Pavement-esque riffs to Beirut-inspired ukelele pop. There is an element of dream pop to Heartbeeps too, especially on the enchanting 'Hats & Gloves & Scarf'.

Similarly, very much love the empty lecture hall photo, especially the striking red of the hoodie against the green of the seats.

Hey, did you get that reel-to-reel?
Also, seems to have paid off does talking to everyone and putting my URL on arms of people along with messages like "Dear ___, good luck with your GCSEs, JT x" haha.
Got 60 plays so far today (well, since 12pm yesterday, when it resets). Which is a new personal record! ;-)

How are things with you anyway? Have you heard the new Death Cab For Cutie album? Are you a fan of them?

May 28 2008 1:42 AM

Hey - it looks like I won't be coming over after all I don't think. ultCult are bad bad planners (with the exception of Arianne) haha. I'll come down some other time though dude. Or if you're ever up here...

Really want a job right now. There's this wonderful accordion on ebay going for £88 inc. P&P. It's beautiful, and huge. A great deal. MAN, I WANT IT! Hahaha.
Andy & The Big Shark

May 26 2008 12:08 PM

Cool! Well if I did get the train by myself I'd get the one that arrives at around 12. I'll keep you updated and speak to Arianne about it tonight. If worst comes to worst I'll just come down and just sit around somewhere while they play the show hahaha.

I had the worst thing ever today - I thought I'd lost my Casio. Thankfully it was just hiding in my violin case back at home. But it gave me a fright!
Andy & The Big Shark

May 26 2008 11:59 AM

I think I might just get the train down anyway even if they can't sort me out with anything. It'd be worth it I guess. And I'm sure Arianne wouldn't have a problem sharing a bed with me so I can get in for free acommodation haha. ;-)

What time are you free from that day?
Andy & The Big Shark

May 26 2008 11:48 AM

I'm not too sure. It depends on if Arianne can get me down there and stuff. If there is any spare room on whatever they're using to get down there and they're staying over too. So if I can basically just find a place in it all then of course I'll be coming down! I'll have to tell you closer to the date. I really hope I can come.
Rainbowcollector

May 26 2008 9:05 AM

Ah, you can get some pretty scratchy sounds out of a microkorg, I had a play round with one. There's a good thing about digital synth technology; it gives the option to sound bad, haha. I guess it's not as 'read' sounding as the analogues though, which unfortunately are far too expensive now.

I realised I can't wait for the new EP today while listening to Canton is surround sound. Some of the panning stuff is really effective. It was a cool experience.

Hello there Craig, I'm not too bad thanks how are you? I don't know if you know but I'm a big fatty now with a baby in my tum! Hows the music going? I've been reading you bulletin things and it all sounds very exciting! take care xxx
Andy & The Big Shark

May 23 2008 12:21 PM

No words back from the 4 I sent them off to! Nothing on The Hype Machine - and google's still pretty dull. Although one result from the name I'm intregued by...

"Pic related, it's 'Andy & The Big Shark', one of the many bands I love out of my town. He releases his stuff on tape cassettes. ..."
But when I click on it it's a "404 not found"! How frustrating! I want to know who it was!

I think I'm going to hit them again with a few emails once I've finished this EP and uploaded it.
