Clash, Cure, Pixies, Coral, Killers, White Stripes, Beatles, Buddy Holly, Cake, Johny Clegg... the list is endless, but pretty much consists of all the greats and some lesser knowns.
Newest single release 'Robber' recently selected as Demo of the Week on the Icon Show, Phantom 105.2 FM
Heartbreak Cartel is a funky rock band that was formed in 2003 in Pretoria, South Africa (under the name The Abbots), that consists of one (gorgeous?) singer-guitarist, a (hardcore?) guitarist, a (smooth?) bassist and a (hairy!)drumming machine!
Heartbreak Cartel has been known to impress audiences with their lively, foot stomping, entertaining shows. From the outset the band's sonic approach has blended home-grown South African Kwaito beats, Euro-Polka, and a contemporary indie sound into what we shall now refer to as 'AFRIROCK!!'
This sonic approach was well received as Heartbreak Cartel impressed at all the major festivals and received regular airplay throughout South Africa. Following from this, the band decided to relocate to Dublin, Ireland for bigger opportunities, where it kicked off its adventure with some foot stomping shows at the Village, Madisons, Eamon Dorans, Voodoo Lounge, Whelans and the Sugar Club. Heartbreak Cartel has played at some of Irelands great music Festivals including; Life Festival and Euro Cultures Festival, Hard Working Class Heros, and the Dublin Fringe Festival.
Active, is the only way to describe this band who have already conquered the Czech Republic alongside Fun Lovin' Criminals! Heartbreak Cartel are planning on doing a tour throughout Europe and America in 2009. They have recently finsihed their latest recording 'robber' which was selected by Phantom 105.2 FM as the Demo of the week. Work has begun on the next blockbuster single at their Dublin studio (Plaza Studios) in collaboration with well known artists from Franklin (www.myspace.com/franklinofficial).
Have no fear the Heartbreak Cartel are near.
