Some bands we love (in random order): Aqualung, Muse, Straylight Run, Andrew Bird, Emery, Feist, Matisyahu, Thrice, Big Wreck, Cake, Lydia, The Cat Empire, Coldplay, Jars Of Clay, Editors, Meriwether, Eisley, Snow Patrol, Incubus, The Mars Volta, Copeland, Travis, Amon Tobin, Sigur Rós, Third Day, Radiohead, Cartel, He is Legend, Mute Math, Spoon, Sufjan Stevens, VAST, Sondre Lerche, tool, Dillinger Escape Plan
These bands were/are awesome and deserve more than they got: The Juliana Theory, Gatsbys American Dream, The Format
"...I soon felt invigorated by “Tin Man’s” dense, pounding rifts and their crafty, spellbinding interludes. Just when I thought I had them pegged, the band would shift into a new genre or stray from the accepted rock-style format. Their last song of the night, and perhaps my favorite, began simple enough and slowly built in tension and intensity, with Willis trying out some experimental guitar techniques and keyboardist Becky repeatedly playing a gradual, haunting piano."
- Portland Nightlife Examiner
"Before a session with A Heart for a Tin Man, Oz’s metal man would do well to buy a warranty on that new ticker. With radio-ready compositions elegantly tipping to the more somber end of the emotional spectrum, the quartet has enough well-crafted laments to cause the Tin Man's heart to break anew. Mournful but not without moments of affirmation laced with distorted interludes recalling early Smashing Pumpkins, the band has its sound down pat, with brains and a bit of courage tossed in for good measure." - Willamette Weekly 01/14/08

Heart For a Tin Man believes that music is art before entertainment. Like any other type of art, it's about taking something from within yourself, and using it to create something bigger. They believe the terms emoTIONAL and progGGRESSIVE are what makes good music, and are not just genres to hang your name on. They desire to make music that is challenging, but not self-indulgent, energetic, but not uncontrolled, personal, but not self-aware. Most of all, Heart For a Tin Man believes that music is a way for everyone to take their common experiences, both good and bad, exultant and despondant, tragic and victorious, and know that at one point someone else has felt the same.
Check out a video of some new material we are all very excited about. From our show at Kelly's Olympian on 3/2/09:
On June 14, 2010 we will be accepting submissions from artists interested in performing in front of 25 to 50 representatives from the 4 Major Recording Labels and several of the top Independent Record Labels.
This will occur over two consecutive weekends. One weekend in New York and one weekend in Los Angeles over two days that will feature 15 of the top bands selected to perform each night at one location. In doing it this way every band that performs WILL BE SEEN by ever representative attending. Unlike SXSW and other such music conferences where if you’re not at the one or two locations where all the label representatives hang out, you’ll ever be seen, and it was a complete waste of your time and money.
NO COST or FEES, other than the artist’s own travel expenses. Compete details and submission procedures shall be posted on our MySpace page June 14, 2010. WE SHALL NOT ACCEPT ANY SUBMISSIONS UNTIL THAT DATE.
And here is why we are committing a considerable amount of time and resources to this opportunity:
Sonicbids is an Artist and Promoters Worst Nightmare
Recently we began a trial usage of Sonicbids’ service for our artist and band searches.
As a result of that test it became clear that Sonicbids is all about earning money at the expense of artists looking to break through the wall that surrounds the music industry.
Based on our experiences from both the perspective of artists we are associated with seeking to benefit from opportunities offered though Sonicbids. As well as from the perspective of promoters searching for talent through Sonicbids service.

Sonicbids is an Artist and Promoters Worst Nightmare
Recently we began a trial usage of Sonicbids service for our artist and band searches.
We have concluded that Sonicbids operation is nothing more than another one of these money making SCAMS that is generating as much as $8,000,000.00 a year for Sonicbids at the expense of artists and bands paying subscription fees on top of submission fees to be considered by promoters utilizing Sonicbids services. Of which many of these Promoters are running nothing but a SCAM on artists or bands that apply.
First, you should be aware of where the money goes. For every dollar an Artist or Band pays for Sonicbids’ subscription fees, it goes directly into Sonicbids pockets. Second, the first $100.00 of every listing by a promoter, as well as 50% of all fees you pay for any listing also goes directly into the pockets of Sonicbids. This means that Sonicbids is, by our estimation, pocketing over 75% of all monies collect from unsuspecting artists and bands.
And because we
love you so much, we've covered 3 of our favorite love songs from Yo La
Tengo, Slint, and Bob Dylan just for you. Come get some of that free
love right......

TUESDAY 8/11/09: MARK TWAIN INDIANS, THE VALLEY ARENA, OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
“[SMART ROCK] Don’t let the riffage scare you. The Valley Arena’s new disc, We Died, finds the SoCal crew engaging in hard rock as smart as it is heavy: Tricky post-hardcore guitar licks are there to buoy cleverly jingoistic turns of phrase. Fans of bass-heavy ‘90s indie rock like Jawbox and Seaweed ought to dig the group’s smartly aggressive aesthetic, which grows in spurts with each release. And you thought nobody was making worthwhile rock ’n’ roll anymore. Psshh.” - CASEY JARMAN, The Willamette Week
Wow! Well, hopefully I'll make it up to Portland post September. I don't even think I'll be back in Eugene until late Sept. It'd be cool if you guys could make it to Eugene (in say, October), maybe a show at the WOW Hall, eh?
For some reason I cannot listen to the new stuff...Flash will not update properly for whatever reason. Know anyone else with the same problem...or a solution? I'd love to hear it =/
