Reviews for The Empty Promise:
One of the great challenges in listening to this album was that trying
to define it as darkwave or gothic was impossible . . . The name of the band itself sets the tone for the content within. Melancholy, hope, power,
absolution, regret all wrapped up into a nice package entitled The Empty Promise.
- Poseidon, Gothic Beauty Magazine
Certainly recalling fairly prolific ghosts of the pasts, the band blends old and new for a great sonic formula that's atmospheric and emotional yet danceable. With a great sound and strong songwriting, it'll be interesting to see where they go from here.
When I played it everything changed, and you have to slip into a higher state of mental alert . . . It doesnt strut, it doesnt allow itself to get ponderous, it doesnt try and be over-artistic to impress. It just gets on with it and allows superb songs to take flight . . .
- Mick Mercer, www.mickmercer.com
The musicianship is very solid, with a lot of great synth/piano work and a number of very catchy songs . . . Overall this is a good debut album . . .4/5
- Rick A. Mortis (Joshua Pfeiffer), www.post-punk.com
Melody, atmospheric soundscapes and dark lyrics meet in the sounds of Hearts Fail . . . the eight-cut CD is a sonic success with its deft melding of synth and guitar and rhythm with Wagner's voice riding on top . . . Hearts Fail is not making empty promises.
- Jim Beal, The San Antonio Express-News
. . . its no surprise that Hearts Fail has attracted a loyal cadre of local goth youth and electroclash adherents. For all its flirtations with melancholia, however, Hearts Fail always comes off as relentlessly pleasant and upbeat. Its eight-song debut CD, The Empty Promise, offers the requisite level of goth foreboding . . .
- Gilbert Garcia, The San Antonio Current
Here's an old OLD video of us playing an old OLD "happy" song from our first album . . .
