Oldtime blues fiddle tunes, New Orleans grooves & heart-wrenching ballads
Country girl vocalist, violinist and bandleader Heather Stewart grew up on a farm in southern NSW. She sang constantly and started learning violin at 7. After a classical degree, sessional orchestra and opera chorus work in London, Heather followed the other path of Jazz and Blues singing and fiddling. Returning home Heather set out to build her Jazz repertoire and found the Blues and early Jazz recordings drawing her in. After meeting John Durr (Blackmarket Music) in 2006, Heather followed these traditions further and found her home with Bessie Smith and Memphis Minnie tunes along with the raw talents of Mississippi Sheiks. Heather recorded Laurie Lewis album with Mark Fitzgibbon & Doug DeVries in 2005, original song project "Farren", a new blues EP in 2008 and at each gig is gaining fans and a reputation as a great blues vocalist and fiddler.
Heather’s performances include many local and international festivals and venues including the Femo Jazz Festival (Denmark), Le Quinze (Paris), The Swan Bar (Paris), Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Spice of Life Club (London), Melbourne’s The Lomond Hotel, The Drunken Poet, Gem Hotel, Café 303, Wesley Anne, Spleen Bar and Trades Hall. She has performed with Australian and Turkish Folk bands, Manouche Gypsy groups, Jazz combos including FLAP! and plays regularly alongside Jimi Hocking (Screaming Jets) following their successful Jimi Hocking Blues Mandolin Band performances featured at the 2008 Port Fairy Folk Festival and Broadbeach Blues Festivals 2008 and 2009.

The Heather Stewart Trio launch at Broachbeach Blues Festival 2008 had audiences screaming for more. The Trio features the rare talents of blues musicians Dan Dinnen (runner up MBAS Blues Performer of the Year 2007) and Danny McKenna (Jeff Lang, Unified Gecko, Those Bloody McKenna’s). At Broadbeach 2009 they were one of the highest EP selling bands. Heather is currently working with Blackmarket Music on her upcoming debut blues vocal and fiddle album.
