Origins
HEAVYMAN began producing recordings in December 2005. The choice of a superhero character was deliberate, the thinking being that the superhero mythology was appropriate both to the genre of rap and to HEAVYMAN's opponents, corrupt politicians.
Intentions
The primary motivation for the creation of HEAVYMAN was purely to make mischief at the expense of politicians and for the rappers’s own self-gratification. At the time most rap from HEAVYMAN’s viewpoint, was materialistic, frivolous and/or violent. His intention was to harness the energy of Hip-Hop and direct it towards influencing positive changes in awareness. Never having suffered from a lack of intellectual confidence, the adoption of mainstream production values was not embarrassing or accidental, it was a deliberate and necessary step towards becoming popular.
Inspirations
HEAVYMAN set out to be proactively provocative. RATM were a big inspiration, Senser was another. Guido Fawkes, Mark Thomas and Jeremy Paxman were clearly big influences. The lo-fi politically incorrect tone of punk is deliberately echoed, though some effort has been made to tart it up. HEAVYMAN finds www.38degrees.org.uk inspiring and recommends all UK residents to join them NOW!
Perception
HEAVYMAN sees himself as a musician, a campaigning bard of parliament who publishes via a website. This one and reverbnation so far... www.reverbnation.com/heavyman
Reception
HEAVYMAN is trying to become popular, if you like his stuff and/or it makes you laugh, becom a 'fan'. God knows, radio won't play it...
