The entity that is BASTARD was originally a self fulfilling conjuration, invoked by Dolomydas (ex-Helshare) during 2006 (date unknown)... a solo project to pass time at home. The name of the game was to create music within the sphere of death & doom metal... harking back to the traditional styles/textures and glory days of the late 80..s/early 90..s. Adding textures of black metal to the mix, as well as grind, a real BASTARDised sound was created.
During the summer of 2007, a collaboration arose with Anton (Kaun/IX Dimension) to assist with synths and drum programming. Resultant of these collaborative efforts over a number of months, a mutual decision to create a full fledged band/line-up was reached... and so began the search.
During December, 2007, the services of a drummer was secured, with the entrance of Óðinn (ex-Thorshamrar/Stillbirth/Perfect Disorder). His old-school attitudes and creative playing style was a perfect foil for the riffs and arrangements created by Dolli and Toni, who was now placed as BASTARD..s bassist. Formal rehearsals began in earnest, whilst searching for more members to join this doom cult.
During a series of auditions, the missing pieces to complete BASTARD were found in February 2008. On rhythm/lead guitar, the position was filled with Kjarri (Severed Crotch/Necrotoxic/ex-Disintegrate), whose fluid playing and technical abilities were perfect to add a variety of attacks on the established material. The vocalist position was completed with the addition of Australian vocalist MiK (Hostile (IS)/ex-Burghers of Calais/ex-Daemon Foetal Harvest), whose lyrical abilities and relentless vocal experimentation set up a funereal match made in purgatory. With the new blood, the monster that is BASTARD was set to rise...
Over a long series of rehearsals and constant streams of writing, a varied set of tunes were composed and rehearsed to scalpel precision. Three months after the solidified line-up, the debut invocation of BASTARD took place during May 2008. More shows with a variety of great local Icelandic bands ensued, and momentum started to generate, culminating with a spot on the annual Eistnaflug festival at Neskaupstaður. However, a change was due to come...
In August, it was with disappointment that our drummer Óðinn made the decision to break ranks with BASTARD due to personal reasons. This break was amicable and on good terms. Within a short space of time, a replacement was found in Gunni Svenn (ex-Helshare). Rehearsals began in earnest with slight alterations in the songs but, losing no potency in attack.
It is only recently that the first proper (remixed) studio track has been completed (not including the demos and live tracks currently available), which will be made available via this page in the very near future, so keep your ears peeled for it. The original recordings have been scrapped, due to differences of opinion between the band and the engineer who recorded the sessions... and as a result, only 16 copies of the projected EP were made available, all of which have been sold out.
Currently, plans are being laid for the re-recording of the ..Dementia and Filth.. EP, which will be available within the first quarter of 2009... with a full length album slated to be recorded and released towards the end of 2009. Interest within Iceland and abroad is being generated at a fast pace, and with these recordings and an increased presence within the live scene, things will be taken up a level or two. With new songs, upcoming shows and other plans, what comes next will be interesting to hear, watch and observe...
