Héctor Murrieta was born in Mexico city and started studying classical guitar at the "Ollin Yolitztil" conservatory with Antonio López, and later at the Escuela Nacional de Música, U.N.A.M. , with Juan Carlos Laguna. He has also taken composition classes with H. Guerrero, G. Noriega and private classical guitar lessons with Gonzalo Salazar and Carlos Bernal.
He has taken masterclasses with some of the most prominent guitarists of our time, amongst them: Gonzalo Salazar (Mexico), Sante Tursi (Italy) Ignacio Rodes (Spain), Robert Guthrie (USA), Costas Cotsiolis (Greece), David Leisner (USA), Manuel Barrueco (Cuba/USA), David Tanenbaum (USA), Thomas Kirchoff (Germany), Dale Kavanagh (Canada) and Pavel Steidl (Chezc republic).
He received a scholarship from the The California State University to attend the Summer Arts Guitar and Lute Institute, in which he also took classes with The L.A. Guitar Quartet, Benjamín Verdery, David Tanenbaum, Richard Savino and the Pearl and Grey Duo.
He has premiered works in Mexico by Peter Sculthorpe, Alan Hovhaness, Lou Harrison as a soloist and Gerald Garcia, Roland Dyens and Alfonso Montes in ensembles. His appearances on a variety of radio shows have brought him rave reviews on his work and commitment.

His versatility has allowed him to work with musicians from different fields other than classical music, giving him a versatility not commonly found.
His first CD, "De Oriente a Occidente: Musica del Siglo XX", released in 2007, includes music by C. Chavez, L. Brouwer, T. Takemitsu and H. Villalobos. Several tracks off this recording were used on the documentary "In the Absence of Men" by Reel Futures International, an U.S.A. company working on global problems for a better worldwide future.
“Entre Senderos”, his 2nd CD released in June 2009, includes music specifically written for guitar by some of the most important composers of the 20th century. The works found in this recording are M. de Falla’s “Homenaje a Debussy”, F. Martin’s “Quatre Pieces Breves”, E. Krenek’s “Suite for Guitar Op. 164”, F. Poulenc’s “Sarabande”, T. Takemitsu’s “In the Woods” and W. Walton “5 Bagatelles”.

Domínguez, Prof. H. Guerrero und Prof. G. Noriega, Instrument Ensemble bei den Professoren Eunice Padilla und Luisa Duron, Chor Ensemble mit Prof. J. Ávila und Guitarrenprivatstunden mit Prof. Carlos Bernal. Augenblicklich nimmt er an Vorlesungen von Prof. Gonzalo Salazar (Mexiko). Er hat an nationalen und internationale Festivals teilgenommen mit Vorlesungen von verschiedenen Professoren: Sante Tursi (Italien), Ignacio Rodes (Spanien), Robert Guthrie (USA), Costas Cotsiolis (Griechenland), David Leisner (USA), Manuel Barrueco (Kuba/USA), David Tanenbaum (USA), Thomas Kirchoff (Deutschland), Dale Kavanagh (Canada), Ulrich Stacke (Deutschland) und Pavel Steidl (Tschechische Republik) unter anderen. Er erhielt ein Stipendium der California State University, um an dem Summer Arts Guitar and Lute Institute teilzunehmen, wo er auch Vorlesungen von den folgenden Professoren hörte: The L.A. Guitar Quartet, Benjamín Verdery, David Tannenbaum, Richard Savino, Pearl und Grey Duo. Er ist in verschiedenen Interviews und Radioprogrammen (Radio Educación, Radio UNAM) und multidisziplinâren Eventen aufgetreten, wie “Erste Woche des Buches und der Dichtung” (mit Teilnahme des Dichters Jaima Sabines), der Zyklus "Die Musik lebt in der Universität", usw. Der venezolanischer Komponist Alfonso Montes gab folgenden Komentar zu meiner Interpretation seines Werkes "Milonga al sur" : "Ihre Interpretation meines Stückes hat mich stark bewegt, hauptsächlich weil sie den Effekt überschreitet, mit dem Sie es interpretieren. Was Sie tun, spricht nicht dafür, dass Sie meiner Partitur gegenüber passiv sind". Seine geistige Beweglichkeit hat ihm auch erlaubt, in verschidenen Activitäten der volkstümlichen Musik teilzunehmmen, indem er bei verschiedenen Eventen wie „Erster Universitätswettbewerb für Rock” mit dem Brüderen Barrera (der Jazz gruppe B4) und J. Acosta (Gründer der Rock gruppe “Tuna” und Produzent verschiedener Projekte) Solosänger begleitet und Preise erhalten hat. Seine erste CD, "De Oriente a Occidente: Musica del Siglo XX", mit Musik von C. Chavez, L. Brouwer, T. Takemitsu und H. Villalobos kann man in Mexiko durch die Bücherläden Educal bekommen und auf internationaler Ebenen über die Gesellschaft CD Baby. Kürzlich hat er an dem “Erstes Interactives Ensamble für Mexikanischen Kunst” teilgenommen, ein CD das in dem Mexikanischen Kunst Direktorium (directorio de arte en Mexiko) enthalten ist, veröffentlicht von Vector Mariachi im Internet. In diesem kann man Aufnamen verschiedener Musik und Arbeiten Mexikanischer Künstler finden. Domínguez, H. Guerrero y G. Noriega, Conjuntos Instrumentales con las clavecinistas Eunice Padilla, Luisa Duron, Conjuntos Corales con J. Ávila y clases particulares de guitarra con Carlos Bernal.

Se ha presentado en diversas entrevistas y programas de radio (Radio Educación, Radio UNAM), eventos multidisciplinarios como la Primera Semana del Libro de Poesía.. (con la participación del poeta Jaime Sabines), el ciclo "La Música vive en la Universidad", etcetc.
El compositor venezolano Alfonso Montes comento con respecto a una grabación enviada a el de su obra "Milonga al sur" : "Vuestra interpretación de mi pieza me conmovió mucho, sobre todo porque traspasa el efecto con que interpreta esta. Lo que usted hace habla de la no pasividad ante la partitura".
Su versatilidad también le ha permitido incursionar en diversas actividades de la música popular, acompañando a diferentes cantantes solistas, u obteniendo premios en eventos como "1er Concurso Universitario de Rock" con los hermanos Barrera (del grupo de jazz B4) y J. Acosta (creador del grupo de rock "Tuna" y productor de diversos proyectos).
Su primer CD, "De Oriente a Occidente: Musica del Siglo XX", con musica de C. Chavez, L. Brouwer, T. Takemitsu y H. Villalobos se encuentra disponible en la republica mexicana a traves de librerias Educal y a nivel internacional a traves de la compañia CD Baby.
Recientemente participo en el "Primer Acoplado Interactivo de Arte Mexicano", CD publicado por el directorio de arte en Mexico mas grande en red, Vector Mariachi. En este se encuentran grabaciones de diferentes musicos y el trabajo de artistas plasticos mexicanos; Tambien con musica del CD "De Oriente a Occidente: Musica del Siglo XX" para el documental "In the Absence of Men", producido por Reel Futures International, organizacion no lucrativa con base en U.S.A. , dedicada a proponer soluciones creativas a problemas globales.
