The 100's of musicians who's name I don't know but whose influences have stayed with me.
Well, after a serious 3 year "away" from any real music projects, 2007 turned up the heat a little bit. I think I really just needed to have some downtime. My heart didn't write any music. There just wasn't much to say, but I think I'm back on track again.
Alex Falcone in Italy, The Heepheads - both here and in the UK, The Harms' Way Project, all in the last few months. Maybe the fire is lit once again. I replaced one of the pickups in my Strat, bought a new deck, bought another Alesis synth (now I have two :0), built my pedalboard again, wrote a bunch of new websites in .net , got a new laptop, and generally got tired of being tired
Sooooo...as I drag myself out of 2007, Uriah Heep has a new Album "Wake the Sleeper" that will be out, I have new strings on all the guitars, and hopefully 2008 will be a good one.
Thanks to all of you for the nice comments below about my short tunes up here. I started a CD called "One Left" 4 times already...maybe it'll get done one day :-)
I'd really like to do some more of the 6-7 minute songs I like to record best - when the mood stikes eh ?
11 years on the net and it all started as Webmaster of the official sites of Uriah Heep and Mick Box
... almost as long now with Mostly Autumn
That's the work part of it, but for the personal side of the music it's been Internet recordings with some of the best musicians (and friends) anyone would want to work with !
Long ago the Heepsters started sending cassettes through the mail to each other, recording tracks of Heep songs to be overdubbed on home recording equipment. I think we were doing this a long time before it was established practice as it is today. No one had computer software, no one recorded with disks, it was all done by mailing tapes through the postal mail. No real method of editing - what you put on tape you mixed into the song, and sent it on to the next guy...and it was REALLY fun !
We mailed tapes and CD's all over the world to each other and it was a great day when a new track came in the mail. All of us worked pretty hard on these early recordings, and we ended up with some pretty innovative ways to make it all work...
The short of it, is that we all really had a great time, we formed a bond because of our Uriah Heep connection, and we were able to share our musical styles with each other.
It's all been a blast I hope for everyone.
The players I've been fortunate enough to be on records with know I send them my thanks - it's been great.
I hope to get finished now with "One Left", the CD that's taken me forever to get started... but - it'll get there...
At least the album art is done, and by Ed Unitsky ! See his brilliant works at www.myspace.com/progsky He is amazing ...
I'm currently recording for a very cool project with my friend Alex Falcone on his new release called "Alex Falcone AphasiA" .. he writes some great tunes and I'm happy to be involved with this one ! Check out his site at www.myspace.com/alexfalcone !
He's also in a Heep Tribute band band called Sweet Lorraine... what else ! :-) See : www.sweet-lorraine.com
I just realized how much I miss our frequent communication of many years ago, pre-myspace and grey hair, baldness etc. So how's life treating you, mate? Rock on, all the best~~~ [ b ]
Hey, who in the hell are those HeepHeads guys anyway? Davey, just wanted to say hey and see if you're doing well. Been a rough winter here and I am fed up with it. I am having a blast playing out again, and this time it's the real thing. Hopefully we can get something going soon. bOb
