The Hek-Atomic Cherries formed in 1992 as a four piece punk band. All members of the band started learning their respective instruments at the same time, so the band's sound developed as the members became more proficient. After giging around the area behind their first album, "Hey You Wild Animals, Put Down That Meat," the band became a fixture of the Lafayette, LA '90's alternative rock scene.
In 1994, circumstances arose which forced the expulsion of the original singer and the band became a three piece. They continued playing through 1995 and recorded enough material for two albums although only one, "Clamato Bloc Party...A Tribute To Cap'n Lou," was released. They disbanded when they graduated from high school and the members left Lafayette to go to college or persue other musical projects.
After their first year of college, they regrouped for several shows and continued working on the recordings that they had previously started on but never officially released their third album, "Expected Mouse to Live but Mouse Died" or their "VOA/Stay Hungry" EP.
In 2000, they regrouped again for their first show in four years and played like they had never stopped. But the reunion was short lived as they were spread around the country and rarely in Lafayette at the same time.
In mid-2003, due to popular request, the Cherries planned a runion show when they would all be together at Christmas. The show took place on December 23 and was considered by many to be their best show ever. After the show, they decided to make the Christmas show an annual occurence and plan to reunite again on December 23, 2004.
