Helena Mendes is a Portuguese singer born in Lisbon in 1976. She started her music lessons at 4, studying flute and alt violin. She took a degree in Marine Biology in the University of Faro, but her wish for a musical career took her away from the science. Since 2002 she lives in The Netherlands where she studies Jazz and Brazilian Jazz at the Rotterdam Conservatory. She became involved with different styles of music, working with musicians coming from different areas, such as Portuguese music, Brazilian Jazz, Jazz, LatinJazz and Pop. More recently she became more interested in Fado music, and met Portuguese musicians living in The Netherlands with who she started working on Portuguese repertoire.
Her incredible voice and appearance have brought her to every main Dutch stage.
