I met Mad Professor at The Big Chill in Goa, India last year whose vibe is highly contagious; one of the good things to catch whilst in India! My music reflects the kinds of risks I take, the places I've been and the things I've achieved or not achieved so far. I want my songs to touch people's souls right to the core with nothing in between. Who inspires me? Gosh, there are sooooo many from the greats such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Alicia Keys (Unplugged), Candi Staaton, Betty Wright (remember her?), CeCe Winans and the fabulous Ruby Turner. My songs are real and cut like a knife, as they're about things that happen every day, you know.... falling in and out of love, loss, betrayal, pain, jealousy and of course we musn't forget good things can also happen in life.....
I've just finished writing my book, Singing Tips at your Finger Tips which was a journey I'll never forget. I hope it will inspire and give your confidence to continue pursuing your dream! I'd love to hear your comments so feel free to email me.
I love Kirk Franklin's Hero album, it's awesome. I think I've worn it out by playing it so much. I also adore Frank McComb and Andy Roachford; I heard both at Stevie Wonder's Birthday party. Wow what voices. Listen to Frank's version of 'His Eye is on the Sparrow'. Just bring it on baby!!
It's great to be back on the scene again and I can confidently say I'm pleased to announce I've never taken drugs. I just don't get it; why does one have to have either been in jail or to The Priory (same thing so I'm told) in order to secure a record deal? Sure I've been to hell and back but I've just dealt with it. Life does take some unexpected turns doesn't it? I live life to the full and in the moment, sure it's not easy. I try to have no expectations.
