Bio
.. I have always been obsessed with music. I've tried on a number of occasions to get involved with making music. In my late 20's I was bass player in 2 one-gig bands ("Making Garage Doors Badly" being my favourite). But, coz my sister told me I couldn't sing when I was 12, I never took it very far. Not long after my 40th birthday I met this musician who I started to hang around with, after about a year I asked for a singing lesson. Who knows, my sister may have been wrong... .. Well, I'm still not sure, but I do it anyway! I even write my own stuff. I'm struggling with the guitar, but I sometimes manage to make my songs sound vaguely like I hear them in my head. ..I can be heard playing at open mic nights & folk clubs in & around Bristol (UK) most nights of the week. I gig occasionally. I'd like to do more but I can't be bothered with all the hassle of chasing promoters. I'm sometimes accompanied by my good friend Richard Burley (www.myspace.com/richardgburley) who is a great songwriter, fabulous guitarist & super singer as well as being good people. .. Find out more about some of the things I used to be involved in by going to ..Bristol Acoustic Roots Singer Songwriter Festival.. & ..www.myspace.com/barssfest.., ..SongSmith Bristol.. as well as the all new ..SongSmith Club... .. I've handed over the running of the somerville club open mic night every thursday to ..Mireille Mathlener.. & ..Richard Craine.. (..www.myspace.com/somervilleclub..). I still support it most weeks, it's good to see all my old friends! -

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem, & some songs, on myspace...
Poem 187 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(see my blog for details): A SOUTH SHIELDS WALKABOUT - AUTUMN 2001
Out of the museum-and-gallery
(Wiser on Cookson and the local way),
Down Ocean Road with, to the right of me,
Its eateries and, left, neat places to stay;
Before, on either side, Marine Parks -
The southern-one a most beautiful place,
Teeming with moorhens, swans, grebes and mallards
In a small lake at a scenic-hill’s base.
Then (holding chips from the parade’s cafe
And, thus, a flock of gulls squawking above)
Onto the South Pier I made my way:
Seeing seaweed over rocks - like a glove -
And high-and-dry sands held from transgression
By growth of grass and the weaving of wood,
Plus, in the dim light of a sleepy sun,
Fishing boats returning to Tynemouth’s hood.
(C) David Franks 2003
