Sounds Like
The ambient soundscapes of ethereal darkwave mixed with the dissonance and harsh vocals of death/doom metal alongside "found" percussion.
Hellequin originally started as a project whose goal was to produce an entire album of music created entirely by distorted random sounds. While some short fragments were created, the project never really went anywhere. However, after listening to Ulver's album "Perdition City" and Star of Ash's "Iter.Viator.", I began to experiment with various VST software synthesizers. The project then became focused on blending the atmosphere and depth of ethereal darkwave (such as Black Tape for a Blue Girl and Love Spirals Downwards) with the distortion and darker menace of doom/death/black metal bands (Draconian, Anathema, and Opeth were great influences). Later, post-rock (Godspeed You! Black Emperor being the largest influence) and drone influences were incorporated. The aforementioned "found" sounds still make an appearance in the percussion, created entirely with a crescent wrench, a soda can, a milk jug, and a fork and spoon.
hey man, thanks :) im really happy with how that track turned out. do you want an mp3? i could send it to you...
anyway, i love all the tracks on your page, but my personal favorite at the moment has to be "mayday". the howls in there, combined with everything else that's going on, just make for a wonderfully ominous experience. love it. peace, and keep in touch...
you'd love the Australia Museum everything in that museum is lit so awesomely theatrical.... you don't see much of that crazy lighting in american museums, but here in Oz it seems fairly standard maybe you oughta start a new lighting design movement for museums......
thanks for your compliments! i dig the percussions in bits, pieces as far as mayday and fragments, very dark, the keys are great! we are in the same hood so if you want to do a show together hit me up. peace, man.
heres the scoop: i love the hollow thud behind the piano notes, it has a depth of passion and anger i love the piano breakdown about 1:42 in its got a quaint baroque feel to some of the patterns when the tinny percussion starts i was a little bit unsure of how i felt, but as it builds i see the merit in that tempo love the end storm noise i'm curious though where the title comes from in terms of overall scheme ---- on another note..the ep is coming, i got a little side tracked with acoustic guitar and banjo and have been working on a folk side project
Thanks for the links. When I get back to the internets in Fort Collins I'll have to check those out. I'd love to go see At the Gates next Tuesday but I don't know if I'd be able to. I'm hoping so, though, and I'll probably ask soonly. How is the Fort anyhow?
thank you for the compliments! we're pleased to know you enjoy :) feel free to download the demo versions on the myspace and reverbnation players. we hope all is well ~ -theWIRED
Wow, thanks a lot for taking the time to listen. Thanks for your input. I'm glad you like it as an album, it's a selection of what I've done in the last year. I hope it's good enough to get continued listens. :P Feel free to share it around as well, if you'd like. Thanks again and best regards, Zac [Adonikam]
