When Australians want a comedian that looks like Phillip Seymour-Hoffman they turn to Peter Helliar.
Pete first came to the nation’s attention in 1999 as a cast member of rove, Rove McManus’ ill-fated first series on the Nine Network. When the show went to Ten in 2000 Pete went with it, becoming an integral part of the Logie Award winning variety show.
In 2003 Pete took on Australian Rules football with After The Game, which went on to become Before The Game in 2004. The following year Pete created Bryan Strauchan, Collingwood rookie and footy superstar in the making. Strauchanie created an AFL sensation picking up the codes’ Personality Of The Year Award, getting his own car in the Grand Final Parade, and even being immortalised on his own official AFL Footy Card.
In 2005 Pete returned to the stand up stage in earnest with a national tour of of his show Frisky. He again took the show on tour in 2006, performing at the Adelaide Fringe, doing a return season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and heading across the Tasman for the NZ Comedy Festival.
2007 will see Peter touring a new show, HELLRAISER, nationally as well as returning to the small screen

The world is going to end. There is no point arguing about it, what we should be doing is working out who is to blame, otherwise our whole existence will be fruitless. Who will win the race to the end of the world? Terrorists have had a decent crack, North Korea is gaining credibility, global warming’s chances are getting hotter and let’s not forget about God whose CV is impeccable, or might it just be one of those tosspots from the Bunnings ads?
Either way, Peter Helliar is touring a brand new stand up show to discuss everything that is doomed; which conveniently encompasses everything from why we shouldn’t save chickens to sodoku, from Australia’s defence against a nuclear strike to the ever-expanding range of prophylactics.
As well as his commitment to being one of the nation’s finest stand up comedians, Pete has some other jobs. He works on Rove Live and hosts Network Ten’s Before the Game. His creation Bryan Strauchan became something of a cultural phenomenon in 2006, reaching the height of insanity late last year with the release of his very own DVD Strauchanie Pure BS.
Fresh from his sell out national tour of Australia and New Zealand with his hit stand up show Frisky in 2006, Peter Helliar brings his brand new show Hellraiser to Melbourne for a two week run at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. The show will tour nationally taking in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney later this year.
