Heavy music has been Evolving for over three decades to become a muched Loved. Lasting, form of popular Music. Aggressive and Real, representing a true Yearning for Something better! Hopefully four new individuals will come together to carry on this fine tradition in this band known as HELLMARYS. A dual guitar inferno of emotionally driven, powerful music.
Like alot of ideas, this band/project and it's music has been brewing, for some time. I would say offically from around 96'/97'. And like so many musicians who come to realize, time & energy spent in other bands disagreing on most & many things; but especially a lack of commitment to working through things, needed to take some time out to try and find a voice of my own. Along with, influences & lessons learnt a solid style has been forged, in what is now HELLMARYS!
The name HELLMARYS like many ideas first came about, throwing "sticky bombs" around too see what stuck. Even though it's a cool play on words & maybe controverisal for some i soon realized there's also a bit of a concept in it as well. What I mean by this is, the catholic prayer: "Holy Mary Mother Of God" say however many hailmarys and repent; could also be applied to the idea of (songs being prayers) for all the things we can't express whatever that might be. Although not literally, but more abstract in nature. Much the same way a song, may mean something different to the writer than it does the listener. Anyroad, take from it what you will, hopefully it's not dogmatic & judgemental in nature. One way of describing HELLMARYS music is a rock'n roll metal pot with ingredients like: Sabbath/Montrose/QOTSA/Entombed, riff heavy with punk/alternative overtones! The colourful song arrangements make you realize you just sank your teeth into something tasty! I've never seen the film or read the book 'Adaptation' but will now that I've heard about it! My new tracks chorus line is..."Adaptation to modernity; consume, consume , consume!" So it's an observation of modern living I guess (the pros & the cons) & a reflection of love thrown in at the c-part.
