About me:
Funkface is about house music. And partying. So if you’re reading this then you must be into these two past-times. Good for you.
Funkface is the music communion of George Upcott and Robert Nisbet, both DJs from Oxford who met at University in Southampton. Having run club nights together at their University Students’ Union for three years, Funkface was formed over nights in listening to house music and the consumption of copious amounts of Baileys. The inaugural Funkface outing was on January 26th 2007 at Fresh Out The Box @ The Cellar in Oxford, playing to a packed crowd.
George Upcott
George comes from a background of playing house parties, swanky bars and venues, all around Southampton. Having always played a pumping, semi-commercial style of house music, his musical tastes fit in very much with the Funkface ethic: party. He has held residencies at numerous venues in Southampton.
Robert Nisbet
Having had a rather different musical history to George, Robert has spent the last 8 years playing a variety of music styles across the south of the UK. Robert now plays his own brand of house sets, encompassing many genres, influenced by his years playing alternative sounds. Past successes have included appearing at Wildchild @ Heaven, London and Sonic! @ The Zodiac, Oxford and RPM @ The Paradise Club, Southampton playing hard dance.
Funkface
As a collective, Funkface are relative newcomers to the scene. Although the concept first saw the light of day in 2006, it was not until early 2007 that Funkface played their first official sets together. However, the combination was an immediate success, with gigs being booked up fast and management interest from a number of credible high profile clubbing brands.
Funkface’s style is most definitely the sound of now. High energy, pumping house music is the order of the day and Funkface are equipped to offer a variety of styles within this remit. Playing across both vinyl and CD, and using large amounts of acapellas, DJ tools, loops and samples, the duo are equally at home playing upfront electro house, funky house, or tribal house – anything with the party vibe – often in the same set!
Forthcoming projects for Funkface include their initial forays into studio production, the creation of their record label, artist agency and clubbing brand Facefunk, and numerous mix-tape concepts. Funkface are always on the look out for new and exciting music to play and release.
Funkface would like to thank: Adrian Everett for his belief and support; First Contact and Fresh Out The Box for their infectious enthusiasm; Alex Kingsley for his huge collection of music; Martha Cadle and Alex Redfern for their photography.
Funkface intend to increase their gig schedule over the coming year, with sets all across the country. Both George and Robert are available for solo or joint bookings in public or private venues, seven nights a week. Full event production services (sound, lighting and decor) are available.
