......Free MySpace Layouts by Iron Spider................ .. Gilstone bio.... His first musical instrument was harmonic, self taught at 15. Moved to NYC at 20 in the 70s and played harmonica with his own band, the Strutton Blues Band, in various clubs around NYC such as The Bottom Line, Folk City, and CBGBs. While living in NYC he learned the basics of guitar from his roommate and is essentially self taught. A year after picking up guitar he was playing around NYC with such luminaries as Blood James Ulmer and The Funk Connection. While playing at Blood James Ulmer’s house he fondly remembers getting complimented by Ornette Coleman for his guitar playing. He also played harmonica with Billy Bang at Jazz Manias in NYC. .... He returned to Boston and met producer Arthur Baker who recorded his harmonica playing for the song, Kind of Love Kind of Life, that charted with the North End Band. Gilstone also did numerous street gigs and radio shows on WBUR with Brother Blue, a famous story teller from the Boston area. .... Gilstone has been under the radar musically, but continuously playing, singing and writing songs. He has been a collaborater with a local Boston producer, Joe Egan on various recording projects. Gilstone has lately been getting significant attention on MySpace with his latest efforts, including MySpace chart success in Portugal with his new band CometDriver. ....
