Before the accident, Hannah was obsessed with the soundtrack from "Hairspray", listened to Jack Johnson every night at bedtime, loved crafts, acting, dancing, and singing, LOVED summer camp at the Alliance for the Arts, her sister Shannon was her best friend, and she just genuinely attacked life at full speed, without fear or self-consciousness. She had a fondness for babies, monkeys, frogs, penguins, and, strangely, roosters. We look forward to the day she can let us know what she likes now...
"Jesus invited us to be like Him, humble of heart. But what is humility of the heart? It consists in receiving humiliations from God with a submissive love, in accepting one's state of life and one's duties whatever they are, and in not being ashamed of one's condition." St. Peter Julian Eynard

About me:
Hi everyone. As many of you know Hannah was in a severe car accident with her mother and sister Shannon on Sunday, July 29, 2007. This was the result of another lady running a red light! The driver of the other vehicle was in a truck and hit the drivers side of the car the girls were in. Lynn (mom) is doing fine, Shannon (sister) was injured and has stitches on her check and a broken nose with multiple bruises, but Hannah got the worst of it! She was in a coma and on life support in ICU at Tampa Gen. Hospital until August 22. She was then moved to the Pediatric unit where doctors worked hard to help keep Hannah stable and heal her. Despite several setbacks and some scary moments, and now being fed through a tube, Hannah was discharged home on August 30, with the promise of being able to return to Tampa for rehab when she could "follow directions".??!! She was hospitaized again at All Childrens Hospital in St. Pete in September when spinal fluid not draining properly from her head caused her to regress to an almost comatose state. A life-saving permanent shunt was placed into her brain, through her skull and drained into her abdomen where it can harmlessly be reabsorbed. A week later due to a miscommunication between the radiologist reviewing her xrays, Hannah was airlifted back to St. Pete where they found she had just an earache and a bowel impaction. At that time, the Grants began in earnest to find a rehab facility to accept her as she was, not "following directions", which she is still unable to do with any consistency. In December, Hannah and her mom began a nine-week stay at Brooks Rehab in Jacksonville, where Hannah began eating pureed foods and intensive rehab.
At this time more then any ever we need everyone to pray for Hannah and the Grant family. Hannah is still not speaking, smiling, laughing or crying. She cannot play with her sister or indicate with any consistency her wants and needs. She remains in diapers and is fully dependent on her family for all her basic functions and needs. With mounting medical bills and the need to finance ongoing outpatient therapies, their lives have been forever changed. Please check back in the above blog section for updates on her. We will try to post info as much as possible! Again thank you all for keeping Hannah and all the family in your thoughts and prayers!
We appreciate all the efforts to raise money for the "Hannah Grant Assistance Fund". The account is set up at Wachovia Bank. You can go to any branch; just tell them that you would like to donate to the "Hannah Grant Assistance Fund". Items can also be sent to Hannah c/o Grant Motors Corp., 2744 Fowler Street, Fort Myers, Fl 33901; (239) 332-7911 or (239) 332-4420.
Through the community's generosity, Hannah's dad has been able to put together a therapy room for her, to take the place of the intensive inpatient therapy Hannah responded so well to at Brooks. We are grateful to everyone for their help and especially their prayers.
We hope so too, we enjoy your company so much and just love the kids. And of course you and uncle Scott! Grandma has been doing so much better. I really think these new medications are helping a great amount.
