About me:
Violet Faith Russell was born on December 27, 2005. She made a dramatic entrance into the world. She was born unable to take a breath without "drowning" in her own fluids. She was immediately rushed to NICU where she was inti-bated and that is where her journey began. She was born with a very rare disorder called Vacterl Association. Each letter stands for a birth defect. There is no known cause for Vacterl, it's just something that happens.
Violet was flown to Texas Children's Hospital where she remained in level 4 ICU for 3 weeks. Her first surgery was performed the day she was born to fix her esophagus which was not connected to her stomach. She had her second surgery to fix a spinal cord defect. In June they traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to have her Rectum repaired, but she went into respiratory distress and the procedure had to be stopped. Violet's surgery has been rescheduled for September 24, 2007. Since June they have found that she has sleep apnea, which they believe contributed to her distress. She also has a heart defect, and a shortened radius in her arm. With Gods grace they believe Violet will be healed with her surgery in September and will not have to have any more surgeries.
The family is keeping there faith high. They know that God will provide, he has been right beside Violet and her family all along. Violet is a sweet, smart and very happy 20 month old with a few little hills to get over. It has been a long year and half, but she is determined to make it look easy, because of her faith.
At this time they owe hospital's and doctor's around $150,000.00. The next surgery will require 7-10 days in the hospital.

V = VERTEBRAL ABNORMALITIES
A = ANAL ATRESIA (no hole at the end of the intestine)
C = CARDIAC DEFECT, most often ventricular septal defect
TE = TRACHEOESOPHAGEAL FISTULA (communication between the esophagus and trachea) with esophageal atresia (part of the esophagus is not hollow)
RA = RENAL (KIDNEY) ABNORMALITIES
L = LIMB ABNORMALITIES, most often radial dysplasia (abnormal formation of the thumb or the radius bone in the forearm
