Helsinki are a contemporary and experimental group. Atmospheric textures, evolving rhythms and beautiful melodies, richly entwined to satisfy the hungry pallet of the listener.
Their self-titled debut LP is now available to purchase through the official website (or via a link on this page).
Helsinki were formed in 2006 by vocalist and song-writer Hayley Alker and Jonny Callender (Drummer and Producer). It was initially a studio based project but as the debut album's recording took shape, it soon became apparent that a live show should be developed.
Jon's background in Production had developed working with various artists over the previous decade. Until recently, he was the drummer with established international group the Cranes and previously to that, Vex.
Hayley is often hidden away in the studio with her piano and various music software working on new song ideas. These ideas are tastefully and skillfully realised by Jon's drums and production, Andy Booth's electric and upright bass, LJ Jenkin's guitar melodies, Paul Loder's Fender Rhodes and backing vocals and Les Black's sonic guitar sculpture.
Recent times have seen some quality shows ranging from art installations to music festivals. They are also collaborating with french producer Franck Amendola and his project Curl with recording sessions at helsinki's UK studio and Curl's studio near Monte Carlo.
Work is currently being undertaken for an online release of a three track EP for February 2009.
Other international collaborations have featured italian composer / producer, Giorgio Li Calzi.
