Helsinki
Formed in 2002 by Tom, Brendon and Jon, Helsinki was originally a 3-piece, before Aaron was recruited on bass to allow the development of a more expansive sound. This culminated in the writing, recording and releasing of August, a record over 14 months in the making.
August August is a kaleidoscopic 12-song rollercoaster ride of indie-inflected rock, folk, blues and psychedelia written, for the most part as a continous piece of music rather than a collection of 'singles' and 'filler'.
August began in Tom's spare room with nothing more than a ragged 12 string, a snare drum (borrowed from Tom's neighbour), a big arse 70's organ that weighed more than life itself (given to Tom from his neighbour), and an old tape 4-track recorder (borrowed from Brendon).
August was entirely self-funded and recorded largely in Brendon's home studio. This gave the band immense freedom when attempting to capture the 'right' versions of the songs and gives the whole album an extremely personal and emotional feel.
Now the album is readily available, it has truly been 'born' and Helsinki just hope that as many people get to hear it as is possible.
August is available at gigs and at the below stores:
