Hemlockfest FAQ

Environmentally friendly gathering- please take care of the venue (yes.. because we would like to continue using it, but most of all because it is what we should all be doing on a regular basis anyway).

Recycle bins for glass, plastic, and aluminum will be made available- Please use them (or better yet- minimize your throw away materials).

Water, soda, and food (in all price ranges) will be available for purchase

Ice will be available for purchase

No Styrofoam coolers!

Beer available with proper ID, onsite vendor will be Terrapin.

Festival koozies will be available for purchase and we encourage their use (cuts down on breakage, feels better in hand, looks better over all)

Festival shirts (short and long sleeve), stickers, hemlock earings, pendant necklaces, cloth tote bags, and travel mugs will be available for purchase (please bring money to buy them?)

Campfires allowed in designated fire rings only (plenty among camping areas)

Fire logs and wood will be available for purchase (please no lighter fluid and/or gasoline fire starting)

Fishing poles allowed

Dogs allowed if people friendly and kept on leash (if problematic may be asked to leave). Please be considerate in regards to waste issues (aka poop).

Bring a flashlight, headlamp, or lantern if staying past dark (most festival lighting will be by tikki torch, fire and an almost full moon)

Could be cold – bring plenty of warm clothing/ blankets

Could rain – bring rain gear

Chairs/other seating - welcome to bring along

Primitive Camping - means you must be able to carry your stuff for a distance and not be reliant on a vehicle. A shuttle will get you the quarter mile or so from the parking area to the venue, but from there to your camp spot you are on your own. Some allowance for drive in and drop off is made. But all vehicles must be moved from camping area to parking area after gear is dropped off.

..
Port-a-johns and hand wash stations are the provided restroom service centers. Only two showers available for use.

Pack it in, Pack it out - Please be prepared to leave With what you brought.

Kiddie Village is not a baby sitting service; it is a place for children to participate in activities with their parent/s or guardian/s.

Archery and knife throwing - no prior alcohol consumption allowed for participants. (If you have a favorite thrower, be sure and bring it along!)

Please – no obnoxious electronic/battery powered equipment that would take away from other’s experience.

Be smart and behave responsibly so we can all have fun.

After hours acoustic jam- this is a time for non percussion music. Bring your guitars and other stringed instruments and have some fun. Starts around 12:30 Am after last act Friday and Saturday. This will take place around a large bon fire at Little Stonehenge, a semi-natural amphitheater.

Good music.. Good food.. Good purpose.. Good people.. Good times…

Let’s have some fun!!

Press Release:

You can help Save the Hemlock Trees

Hemlockfest 2008 ANNOUNCEMENT

And have fun doing it!

The Lumpkin Coalition (a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization) announced today the fourth annual Hemlockfest in North Georgia. Hemlockfest 2008 will be held at Starbridge (just one hour north of Atlanta near the historic town of Dahlonega) on November 7-8-9.

The survival of hemlock trees is being threatened by the woolly adelgid, an aphid like insect introduced from Asia and now spreading through the north Georgia forests. This benefit will raise funds and awareness to help save these magnificent trees that arguably define southern Appalachia and keep our rivers cool enough to sustain such temperature-sensitive species as trout and crayfish. 100% of donations/proceeds from the festival will go toward advancing the hemlocks defense against the woolly adelgid. Our efforts the last three years contributed significantly to the establishment of a beetle (which prey on the woolly adelgids) rearing lab at the University of Georgia as well as giving support to the beetle rearing labs at Young Harris College and North Georgia College and State University.

FireDance as well as Music from such genres as singer songwriter, folk, blue/newgrass, blues, classic oldies, Celtic rock, and jam band will be performed. Experts on the hemlock issue will be speaking on the subject and available to answer questions. Many fun family and child activities will take place, arts and craft vendors will be present and food, drink, t-shirts, and other festival paraphernalia will be available for purchase.

Tickets for the three day two night (primitive camping option only – no car camping) festival range in price from free (for those ages 15 and under) to $15 for Friday, $25 for Saturday, $15 for Sunday or $50 for the whole weekend (includes camping). Special student and senior (65+) rates (with ID) are $5 off any chosen ticket.

Donations and/or ticket purchase (100% tax deductible) may be made in the forms of check or money order and made out to -Lumpkin Coalition- and mailed to 3865 Dawsonville Hwy, Dahlonega Ga. 30533, or by credit card and PayPal through a pay-pal service at the following website:

www.lumpkincoalition.org

For directions or further information (on the hemlock/woolly adelgid issue, the bands, ticketing, where to make donations, how you can help, etc.) please visit our website at:

www.lumpkincoalition.org

or e-mail us at:

You may also call: Forest Hilyer at 706-265-5282.

The Lumpkin Coalition is a 100% volunteer nonprofit 501c3 charitable organization that formed in 2005 to address issues concerning North Georgia, Lumpkin County, and its residents. We are dedicated to preserving quality of life for all those who share it. To this end we support the preservation of a clean and healthy environment, responsible living, and responsible growth.

Who I'd like to meet:
Bands interested in performing at the next Hemlockfest should e-mail us at: info@lumpkincoalition.org.

hey there, Hemlockfest!

well, it has been a long and winding road, and an even longer time coming, but my debut CD, I Remember, is FINALLY HERE!!! YAY!!!!!

to celebrate, American HeartBeat Records(tm) has arranged a FREE DOWNLOAD of Now Is The Time in exchange for a valid email address. Now Is The Time is a brand new, upbeat song I wrote: we are living in turbulent times. suddenly it is okay to be greedy and heartless? no way! a song of hope for our future, a new vision of America and the world.

we have a bunch of exciting things planned to kick this whole thing off, and we need to get a better picture of who our friends are, so the FREE DOWNLOAD form will ask you a few questions, like, what is your country and nearest major city. it all takes maybe 15 seconds.

anyhoo, the FREE DOWNLOAD, and the FUN, begins at www.JAETCHISON.com

I look forward to getting to know you a little better, and I thank you SO VERY MUCH for your friendship and support!

please tell your friends about JAETCHISON.com, and ask them to sign up for the email list, too! FUN things are coming up!!

peace from Atlanta, Georgia, USA,

J.A. Etchison
