   About Hemp Historian

1. If tobacco (one of the most addictive and physically harmful substances) and alcohol (the most mind-altering and physically addictive substance) are both legal, what is the War on Drugs about?

2. If prohibition is to protect us from the harms of illicit drugs, how is prison a safer alternative?

3. How can someone, under American law, be tried for drugs in state and federal court on the same charges?

4. If mandatory minimums work, why are they only applied to drug offenses?

5. If buying and/or selling drugs is a felonious activity, why is it acceptable for government agencies such as the CIA, DEA, FBI and ATF?

6. Why are "look-alike" drugs (parsley, oregano, soap, wax, etc.,) which do not possess the psychoactive, addictive or harmful qualities of drugs (the reason drugs are illegal,) punishable, in a court of law, by the same harsh sentences?

7. The National Office of Drug Control Policy states, "Most children start their drug use, not with marijuana, but with alcohol and/or tobacco."
Why aren't these drugs targeted as the "gate-way" drugs?

8. Marijuana has never caused one single death!
Why is it called a deadly drug?

9. Poppy, coca, and marijuana are all God-given medicinal plants.
How can nature be against the law?

10. Marijuana is a proven treatment for glaucoma, pain and nausea.
Heroin was created by the Bayer company as a more pleasing form of morphine.
Why are these two drugs classified non-medicinal, and why do the police (the DEA), and not the physicians, decide?

11. The DEA states, "Marijuana hasn't proven itself an effective medicine for any reason under any circumstance, and patients suffering from AIDS, MS and terminal cancer have Marinol, a synthetic FDA appproved form of the active ingredient in marijuana."
If real marijuana doesn’t work, how does fake marijuana work?
Also, if marijuana hadn’t proved itself effective, why would it have been synthesized to begin with?

12. The U.K. produces a four-day supply of heroin for $1.
The U.S. pharmaceutical price of pure cocaine is $35 an ounce.
Where would crime exist at these prices?

13. Federal prison statistics show that over 70% of all solitary confinment charges are drug related.
How are we going to keep drugs off our streets if we can't even control them in our prisons?

14. Does the War on Drugs prevent drugs from entering our country?

15. Does the War on Drugs prevent the selling of drugs?

16. Does the War on Drugs prevent the consumption of drugs?

17. Does the War on Drugs stop the rising crime rate associated with drug trafficking?

18. Does the War on Drugs prevent children from acquiring and consuming drugs?

19. What has almost 100 years of prohibition (1914) accomplished in America?

20. What are you doing to help?

The cost of the US war on drugs is in the $trillions with real victims and casualties, military, police and civilian, that number in the millions!
Yet, in almost 100 years, this war has failed to accomplish a single one of its objectives.
In spite of all our military and law enforcement efforts there are more drugs on our streets today then ever in our history.
In spite of all our federal legislation, demand is still on the rise, proving that prohibition is not a deterrent.
The enormous profits of the criminal black market, the product of our prohibitive laws, are the incentive for our children's enticement, and they fuel violence and terrorism igniting bloody wars at home and throughout the world.
The lessons of prohibition are etched in history!
Why are we so blindly ignoring them?
End the war on drugs!

MPP is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. Founded in 1995, MPP works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit its use. MPP believes that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is prison. To this end, MPP focuses on removing criminal penalties for marijuana use, with a particular emphasis on making marijuana medically available to seriously ill people who have the approval of their doctors. MPP doesn't encourage marijuana use. But our failed marijuana laws cost taxpayers billions of dollars a year, keep police from focusing on real crimes, and fail to keep marijuana away from kids. We believe it's time for a new approach-- taxation and regulation. Sincerely, The Marijuana Policy Project
