Hennie Bekker is an award winning, multi-platinum selling recording artist, whose eclectic
career spans decades, continents, generations and genres. Hennie is well known for his
ambient, classical and new age sound on the Hennie Bekker's Tranquility--, Solitudes--,
Kaleidoscopes series. His work with BKS (he's the B part) earned him three Juno
nominations, one Juno award, four Top10 hits, a MuchMusic Video Award, and resulted in
sales of over three million records. His African roots emerge in the African Tapestries
series, an expedition of world music interwoven with the sounds and rhythms of his
youth.
Bekker was raised in Mufulira, a Zambian copper mining town 10 miles south of the Congo
border. A self taught pianist, Bekker had his professional debut at age 15, and spent the
next decade performing with various bands throughout Zambia, Zaire, Zimbabwe and South
Africa. Later in South Africa, Hennie became Musical Director for one of Africa’s largest
record companies, and added scores of film, television, radio and commercial music to his
list of career accomplishments. In the early 80’s Bekker moved to London, England where he
arranged, conducted and together with producer Emil Zogby, co-produced albums for such
notable artists as Freddie Cole, Magna Carta and Stanley Black. Hennie now calls Toronto,
Canada his home.
Bekker is a master of musical technology, using the full resources of his state-of-the-art
studio to blend, stretch, layer and enhance his core sounds. He is a prolific professional
who is constantly creating, exploring and recording auditory portraits that captivate
a wide audience.
