Music has always been a large part of my life. I was brought up in a musical family and learnt to play violin and piano from the age of five. During my school years I played in a variety of orchestras, a 6 piece jazz band and a full size big band. As a result most of the music I heard was classical or Jazz. However, during my teenage years I discovered Indie (Oasis, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene, Pulp) and then Acid Jazz (Corduroy, James Taylor Quartet, Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai) and a whole new world of different music opened up to me.
It was not until I went to art college that I really got into dance music. Here I discovered such artists as Masters At Work, Roni Size, Joey Negro, Goldie, DJ Shadow, Giles Peterson and also the sounds of Funk, Soul and Disco. I was soon bitten by the dance music bug and I began buying a diverse selection of music from Jungle through to Hip Hop. House music found its way to the top of the pile, however, when a friend took me clubbing in London. This experience changed my life forever and inspired me to buy a pair of turntables and learn to DJ.
Shortly after graduating I moved to London and began to DJ for Serious @ The Cross. Here I played alongside and was inspired by such greats as Norman Jay, Full intention, AFTC and Alistair Whitehead, amongst many others. I was also one of the original DJs involved in the set up of Dusted when it began at Herbal and still play for them today.
In 2004 I was asked to play for a night called Hat-Club, which was just starting out. Having got the party rocking I was asked back to do the next event and I was soon made part of the regular Hat-Club DJ line up.
(Check out my DJ dates for the next Dusted & Hat-Club events)
With my musical background and a good few years of DJing under my belt it was only a matter of time until I wanted to produce house music. A partnership with Leigh Darlow and DJ Roo, under our Cella Dwellers guise has gained some notoriety amongst the dance music industry. Cr2 records have released 3 of our remixes and they have appeared on several high profile compilations.
I love to be an instigator, an innovator and a participator when it comes to the dance floor. But, I hope, one thing is clear in both my DJing and music making.......
I LOVE HOUSE MUSIC!
