Henry Mills is a poet, musician and activist from Silver Spring, Maryland.
He is a graduate of the University of Maryland’s Jiménez-Porter Writer’s House, a special living-learning program for students interested in creative writing.
Mills co-founded and served as president of Terpoets, a student-run poetry organization through which he has produced numerous poetry events featuring locally and internationally renowned poets including Andrea Gibson (2008 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion) and Buddy Wakefield (two-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion).
He has worked with middle school students in Riverdale, New Carrolton and Anacostia teaching spoken word in after school programs organized by the Engaged University and Level Ten as well as mentored high school ESL students in poetry at Northwestern High School as part of the Jiménez-Porter Writer’s House program, Postcards From My Country.
Mills has been featured at music and poetry events around the DC metro area including Different Kind of Dude Fest (benefit for HIPS - a nonprofit helping individual prostitutes survive), Positive Youth Fest 4 and 5 (a celebration of youth culture in the DC area benefit the DC Rape Crisis Center) and Split this Rock (a four day poetry festival where he performed with internationally acclaimed poet, Naomi Shihab Nye, for an audience of five and six year-olds.)
Recently Henry was able to share the stage with revolutionary Latin-American folk group, Los Guaraguao, on their debut tour of the U.S. where he performed his bilingual poetry in English and Spanish to packed crowds of guanaco/as.
Four of his poems were recently accepted for publication in a forthcoming anthology of 25 poets under 25 compiled by Naomi Shihab Nye entitled, Let Us In .
In 2008 he received a grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County to put on Helicopters and Vultures, his first major full-length production with the musical collaboration of DJ and musician Stephen Fleg.
They are currently pumping out fresh material and starting riots all over the DMV and beyond.
"In an era saturated with poetry slams, Henry Mills bucks the trend."

I deleted my myspace awhile back, but realized I was missing out on the arts, and myspace is a great tool to keep up with everything I'm interested in.
It looks like you're up to a lot of good. I like that. :) Keep doing it.
