General
The arts (music in its many forms, film, literature, painting, sculpture, architecture, etc.) I also love to travel, and have been all over Europe many times, as well as the Middle East, China, Canada, Mexico, and all over the states. I am a huge history buff too. Love all things Nerdy. Love the Almighty and His living Word.Music
My musical interests are rather wide, but to simplify things I'll try to list a few of my favorites:Radiohead
, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens, Bjork, Cat Power, Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird, Elliott Smith, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Tears for Fears, Smashing Pumpkins, various Grunge bands, Neko Case, Johnny Cash, Stone Temple Pilots, Muse, Coldplay, Rufus Wainwright, Tori Amos, Devendra Banhart, The London Suede, The Cardigans, Kent, Feist, Zero 7, Rasputina, Zao, Converge, etc. Oh, and I can't forget my boys in the Myriad (oh, I'm so proud...a single tear)I am also obsessed with classical music
, and some of my favorite composers include: Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Bach, Debussy, Dvorak, Brahms, Hovhaness, Dowland, Liszt, Puccini, Mozart, Grieg...and a great many more.I also love jazz
, and some of my favorites are Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Nat King Cole, Dave Brubeck, Brad Mehldau, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson...And I also have a lot of interest in various other little corners of the music world, including: Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance music, film scores, and traditional European, Asian and Middle Eastern music.
I wish I could grow a beard like Tchaikovsky's...so brutal:

Movies
As with my musical tastes, my tastes in movies are pretty broad...but I'm definitely a sucker for historical epics, war movies, period films, foreign flicks, and documentaries. A few of my favorites include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Amadeus, Immortal Beloved, Pi, Legends of the Fall, The Passion of Joan of Arc, Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles, Schindler's List, La Double vie de Véronique, Braveheart, Vertigo, Il Postino, Love Actually, Pride and Prejudice (BBC version), Office Space, Amelie, The Pianist, Doctor Zhivago, The Red Violin, Saving Private Ryan, Munich, The Seventh Seal, Casablanca, La Dolce Vita, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, the Godfather trilogy, the old Tennessee Williams movies (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Streetcar Named Desire), the BBC's A History of Britain, Ken Burns' The Civil War, PBS Empires series, The Beatles Anthology, etc., etc...Television
Long live PBS (especially Rick Steves), the Arts Channel, and the History Channel!! Those are pretty much always where I go to on the rare occasions when I do watch TV. I also love Frasier, Friends, Seinfeld, the Family Guy, the Office (British and American). HGTV, Discovery Channel, National Geographic...mostly pretty nerdy stuff.Books
First and foremost the mighty living logos of the Almighty Adonai Elohim...ie the Bible (which surpasses mere bookdom). Aside from that, some favorites include: Homer's Odyssey, Dante's Divine Comedy, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia and Mere Christianity, Nabokov's Lolita, Woolf's To the Lighthouse, Twain's Huckleberry Finn, Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Cervantes' Don Quixote, Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front, Tart's Secret History, Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment, anything by Shakespeare (especially the Tempest, Macbeth, Othello, Henry V), the Classical Greek Playwrights, the Niebelungenlied, Emily Dickinson, Alfred Lord Tennyson, T.S. Elliot, Robert Frost, Sylvia Plath ...and lest I forget, my dear friend Johnny "Hrothgar" Schofield's Glory and Our Little Adjectives...and my own little mini book (shameless self promotion): The Heretofore Untold Adventures of Herbert De Lacroix.Walt Whitman also had a rather formidable beard:

Heroes
Hmmm...the living Christ, St. Paul, my parents, C.S. Lewis, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Alexander the Great, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Hildegard von Bingen, Dante Alighieri, Leonardo da Vinci, King David, Aeschylus, Heinrich Schliemann, Sir Richard Francis Burton...and of course many more.Dante didn't have much of a beard, but he was such a juicy scholar:

About me:
.. .. I've been in training for several years to become one of the Knights Templar. I've been fitted for the chain mail hauberk, greaves, etc., already have a rather fine sword (a scimitar, to be exact - taken in battle from a most valiant Saracen), have several vassals who pay tribute to me, and am just about to close escrow on a rather fine Mott and Bailey style castle in the Holy Land, complete with moat and functioning portcullis. As Prince Rilian, you are brave, noble and intelligent, but easily misguided! Just make sure you don't go after any green women. Which Chronicles of Narnia character are you?
| Your Inner European is Italian! |
![]() You show the world what culture really is. |
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone...be they maiden or squire, vassal or lord, femme ou homme....regardless, please feel free to leave me a message. J'aime tout le monde!!!People who like the Bayeux Tapestry are cool:
